Meet Mango And Minty

These little sweeties are Mango and Minty and we are their long term babysitters. According to Handsome we got Mango and Minty on June 16th (he has a thing for remembering dates).

Their family went to Finland for the summer, something they do every Summer.  The kids were hoping to sit for the bunny because it is "soooo cute". BUT..were very excited to get the birds.

They will be leaving us in about 3 weeks. While I am happy they will go home they will be missed. We don't have pets but will one day. Our pet sitting services allow the kids to have pets for a little while without the cost or the maintenance which we just could afford right now.

The birds are easy pets other than they are quite messy. I change the paper in their cage every 2nd or 3rd day but it is the feathers and seeds that are the bigger problem. It is everywhere. AND...they do occassionally poop through the cage and it gets on my furniture. UGH..They are not trained at all and do get very nervous when someone goes near the cage but all in all it was a great experience.

Bet you can guess which one is which!

  1. The blue bird is the male. I know you can tell the sex by the cere.

I had a blue parakeet, and she was so well trained that I'd let her fly around the house. She never messed. Imagine! (Of course, I was smart enough not to let her fly around for too long.)

    Happy Blue Monday, Maria.

  3. I love their names and the photos. What sweet birds :)

My brother had a parakeet once but didn't like the mess he made most of the time and ended up finding him a new home after about 3 months.

    1. I know now that I would not want to own any birds. So pet sitting is really a good thing. Gave us a chance to see. BUT...you never know

  5. We once had a breeding pair of parakeets. The babies are fun. If you sew, cut a bottom rectangle for the cage with a seam allowance, then make sides from a sheer fabric above the height of the food containers, then put elastic in the top. It would only take a little sewing and would end the seed/feather/etc mess. Cute birds.

  6. We had 2 parakeets when i was little, George and Gracie, that were so cute! They were trained and would sit on your shoulder or whatever for hours if you would let them. But good grief were they messy! Everything you said! I love birds, they are gorgeous, but I would never get another one for that very reason.

  8. I grew up with Parakeets. One would sit on my father's shoulder when he shaved every morning. They are very talkative birds too.

  9. I thought about your post, when I saw a commercial for a mechanical Parakeet. It moves it head and tail. The bird comes with a cage and a perch....it is too funny! I would NEVER buy that bird.
