Are you ready for a disaster?
Does your family know their meeting place?
Do you know your area's evacuation centers?
Make a resolution for 2012 and be prepared for anything.
While we haven't seen snow since that freak storm in October, we are still in the thick of winter which means we could still get snowfall in the New York area.
Many of you work in New York City, go here to find out the order in which the city will plow the streets to help you prepare for your work commute.
Another way to be ready is by visiting the Readiness Challenge – an interactive, online emergency simulation – a tornado tears through the city, knocking out power and jamming phone lines – that forces them to make quick decisions at every turn. The Readiness Challenge also ties in the My Meeting Place Facebook application and other OEM materials to help users get started on their emergency plans.
My friends over at New York City's Office of Emergency Management wants your family to be ready for the worst. Getting educated on just a few important things could be the difference between life and death. As the mom of a two, planning and taking some steps to ensure their safety as well as mine and my husband's gives me peace of mind that we will be OK, if we need to take care of ourselves for a couple of days.
To help you get started with your readiness plan the OEM has sent over a Go Kit for one of our readers.
Go Kit Bag with a Pocket Radio, Flashlight, First Aid Kit, Batteries, Worker's Gloves, Light Sticks, Emergency Blankets and More!
