"Three Times a Lady:" Top 5 Songs to Serenade a Lady

An Outrageous Romantic Comedy
Arriving on Blu-ray and DVD January 10 as an All-New Unrated Ex-tended Cut

Colin played Ally a rockin' rendition of The Commodores' "Three Times a Lady." To celebrate Colin's awesome choice of song and every woman's (perhaps secret) fantasy of being sung to, this feature will explore the top five songs that women want to be serenaded with, including "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys, "Something" by The Beatles, and "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel.

After reading a magazine article that insists if a woman has slept with at least 20 people that they have already missed Mr. Right, marketing executive Ally Darling begins to panic, thinking that she will be alone forever.  With the help of her hunky new neighbor Colin, Ally starts tracking down all her ex-boyfriends, hoping to find her real true love while she helps him escape his latest fling.  Hilarious hijinks and adventure ensues as Ally goes on her wild search for the best “ex” of her life, only to find what she is looking for has been right in front of her all along.

"God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys

The 1966 Beach Boys hit “God Only Knows” is oft cited as one of the greatest songs of all time, and is the perfect way to express your feelings of adoration to that special gay or gal.  This timeless love song has been used in countless films and TV shows, including Love Actually, Saved!, and “Big Love.” The song’s heartfelt lyrics and genuine sentimentality make it a fantastic choice for a serenade for your one true love.

"Something" by The Beatles

The Beatles’ beautiful 1969 song “Something” is highly lauded by both fans and other musicians. Serenading your sweetie with this classic love song will put you among good company or countless others that have put their own twist on the tune. Over 150 artists, including Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Eric Clapton, have covered “Something,” making it the second most covered song in The Beatles’ catalogue (behind “Yesterday”).

"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel’s 1986 hit song “In Your Eyes” has become a theme for young love through its use in television and film.  The song was featured in films like 1993’s Benny & Joon and 2008’s The Rocker. Of course, “In Your Eyes” is best known from the iconic scene in the 1989 film Say Anything… where Lloyd Dobler blasts the song on a boombox above his head outside of his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom window.

"Three Times a Lady" by The Commodores

1978’s “Three Times a Lady” is a classic love song by the funk/soul group The Commodores.  Lionel Richie, who wrote the song, once said that it was inspired by a comment that his father had made about his mother.  This sweet song can be performed in its original version, or in the style of one of the many, many artists that have covered it, including Conway Twitty’s country version and Cobra Starship’s more recent version of the song.

“Lady” by Styx

“Lady,” the classic 1974 rock ballad by Styx is a fantastic song to serenade the one you love with. The song was originally written by the band’s keyboardist for his wife, and has since been used my men around the world to tell their “ladies” just how much they mean to them. For a lesson in how NOT to use this song, check out the awkward serenade Nick gives Lindsay in a hilarious episode of “Freaks and Geeks.”
