I Saw A Beautiful Woodpecker by Michal Is a true Diary of A Young Boy at the Outbreak of WW11.
He was given an assignment in school to write a sentence a day. This book contains his translated entries over illustrations by Ala Bankroft.
His simple sentences written with innocence and poise are adorable and devastating. From finding a caterpillar to hiding from planes.
Also includes reproductions of his entries.
This was truly a remarkable read.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary book for my honest opinion.
