This morning I got a call from my girl Sheress and she wanted to know if it was ok for her and 2 of her kids to stop by in 2o minutes. I love these kind of calls. Truly I do. I love when people feel comfortable enough to invite themselves over.
I cooked breakfast for her and her kids. Not hard to do, eggs, cereal, tea, and biscuits. The  kids played for about 2 hours while she and I caught up. As she was heading home she asked if we wanted to go to her house for lunch. A longer play date? Sounds good to me. We headed to the bank to make a deposit and then headed to her house for lunch. Chicken nuggets for the kids, homemade chili and cucumber salad for us. It was so good.
The kids had a great time playing with her kids and dogs and she and I got to hang out longer.
I busied myself cleaning her air-condition filter and cleaning the air-conditioner. How is that for a lunch guest? Why? I needed something to do while she was doing laundry? I headed home about 3:50 because her son was in dire need of a nap and my two needed to let him sleep.
We got home and the kids played while I sat down to read some blogs and talk on the phone.
Overall it was an awesome day. Love when I wake thinking I have nothing to do and end up having a good time.

Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don’t do what they’re supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.

Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT………
Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.

A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley’s rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the  valley’s end.

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you…Or come in and carry you out.

Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters , daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and   extended family, all bless our life!

The world wouldn’t be the same without women, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood , we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead.

Nor did we know how much we would need each other.

Every day, we need each other still.

LIFEMY NAME IS MOMMYRANDOMNESSTO DO LISTS

Posted on

With the holidays around the corner I am getting stressed about clutter. I have been going through the kids toys trying to purge anything that is too young for them, or isn’t necessary anymore because they don’t play with it or it is missing pieces. I have to say that there isn’t a single toy that is in less than new condition (they take very good care of their toys but sometimes when mom is on a purging binge she throws things away when she sees it laying on the floor only to find out later that there was a piece that goes with it).
My to-do-list for today is..
Go to the bank for Teach
Mail out something I sold on EBay
Do a load of laundry
Finish up some Freelance work
Call new mortgage company and find out what the hell is going on
Call about kid’s insurance which I still have not heard about
Dust the living-room, kids rooms and my room
Along with this little list I receive from getorganizednow
Ten 10-Minute Organizing Tasks
Got 10 minutes? Here are ten organizing tasks you can do in ten minutes or less:
1. Clean out your medicine cabinet. Get rid of old makeup, expired medicine and toiletries you haven’t used in months.
2. Weed out 10 file folders. Invest just one minute or less per file folder. Get rid of anything outdated or no longer useful.
3. Clear off your desk. Take everything off your desk and clear the surface, even if you have to temporarily put everything on the floor in categorized piles (i.e. paper, supplies, electronic media, etc.). Once you can see your desk, you’ll have a surface on which to begin organizing everything you just removed from it.
4. Delete, delete, delete. For the next 10 minutes, delete as many messages as you can from your email in-box. This includes forwarded jokes, unsolicited messages and email you can simply read and chuck.
5. Organize a drawer. Whether it’s your junk drawer, a drawer in your bedroom dresser or a desk drawer, spend 10 minutes emptying out the junk, and arranging it so that similar items are being stored together.
I love working off lists and this FlyLady get me motivated to do the things that have to be done around here.
Here’s to being holiday ready early this year.

Happy Three Kings, Little Christmas, National Take Down The Christmas Tree Or Whatever You Call Today.

To Purchase
I love everything about our Christmas decorations. There is something homey about the house when it is all decorated. We all seem to spend more time together in the living room than any other time during the year. BUT today....being Little Christmas as my family called it growing up meant Take Down the Christmas Tree Day. It is planned to happen tonight. Since my husband isn't home yet and probably has homework I am going to ask him to wait until the weekend. "Come on honey, you must be tired. Let's wait until Saturday."

We still use my kids Fisher Price Nativity Set under the tree. I love it! One day I will have the perfect set but until then this is perfect!

Does your family observe the holiday? Do you do gifts from the Three Kings? Hay leading to the gifts? A special cake? Mass? Take down your tree? or is it just another day to you?

How to Observe

There are various ways to celebrate Epiphany:
  • take down your Christmas decorations (today also happens to be National Take Down the Christmas Tree Day too)
  • participate in a house chalking or house blessing
  • go winter swimming
  • attend a church service
  • make a three kings cake
  • do some star singing
  • listen to the two cantatas that Johann Sebastian Bach composed for Epiphany
  • sing or listen to carols such as "As with Gladness, Men of Old" or "We Three Kings of Orient Are"

Oh My Head Hurts

MY KIDSMY NAME IS MOMMYPARENTING

Posted on

I love, adore, and respect my children for the spirit and enthusiasm each of them show me on a daily basis.
I love my son’s questions, unsolicitated hugs, desire to practice his writing (he writes all the letters of the alaphabet), ability to exhibit boundless energy that I wish I could bottle and drink this elixir daily from a chalice garnished with a lemon wedge.
I love my daughter’s little singing voice, clown faces, and mothering she shows her brother when she offers him all of his loveys all day long.
What I can’t stand is the constant fighting over the same damn toy, the jumping on the furniture, the slamming of their hands against the TV, the endless questions such as “what are u doing mommy” when they know damn well what I am doing and said such just moments before. The arguments over who will go first down the stairs, who will sit in Daddy’s chair, or who wants to watch what.
Grrr…..arrgghhh…my head aches.
Sample minute of my day……
Kid – Mom what are they doing?
Me – I don’t know, what are they doing?
Kid – They are playing.
Me – Right, they are playing.
Kid – Mom, what u doing?
Me – What am I doing?
Kid – You making breakfast.
Me – That’s right I am making breakfast
Kid – Mom I want to put on this shirt
Me – Ok, put on that shirt
Kid – This shirt mom, I want to put on this one
Me – Ok, honey put on that shirt
Kid – This one mom
Me – Yes, ok, put it on baby
Kid – Mom I want to put on…
Me – PUT IT ON Jeez
Kid – Ok
Why?…I am so tired of hearing my own voice. Why do they ask the same damn questions? Why do I have to feed into it everytime? Jesus Christ, now I sound like the damn kids with all the questions. But seriously….why??????????? Super Nanny Help!

Happy New Year From My Family To Yours

I hope everyone has had a great start to 2020. My family and I had a quiet night at home. We don't do anything big. For the past few years my family has requested Chinese take out and that is about it. Hopefully next year I will add some hats, noise makers and more. I always feel bad that I have never made New Year's a big thing. It is. My parents went out often leaving us home. In the morning there would be noise makers, hats and a cocktail umbrella for my sisters and me on the kitchen table. It wasn't a big deal for us but obviously for them.

Being with my little family is my favorite thing in the whole world. Knowing we are all under one roof and safe makes me happy. One day my kids will have lives of their own and not be here. Why would they be? Nothing happens here. I don't feel bad about it, it just is the way it is. My husband sits on his computer and I sit on my iPad. We watch the countdown and the kids come out of their rooms as we get closer to midnight. Anyone else?

I did sit and think about how I want 2020 to look for me.

I want to spend more time with my family outside the house. If not all of us at least me and my daughter. She is always up for something.

I plan on getting outside to walk at least 3 days a week.

We plan on taking a trip to Disney and thankfully with my sister-in-laws help we have a nice financial start. We need to continue saving.

Hopefully I can read more than just the review books I receive in the mail.

I hope to stay more on top of my organizer and journal so I can write posts ahead of schedule. I didn't start a review blog but it has become that. It is time to follow through with this. It is on my list every year.

Hopefully I can do at least a You Tube video a week. I love looking at old ones so I do it for me as well as hoping someone else gets something from it.

I started a bullet journal after wanting to do so for years. Hopefully I can keep up with that.

I plan on learning how to do book binding so that I can make some junk journals.

I hope to pray way more. I do so every night but I want to get more involved in my own personal journey with God.

I hope to get closer to my husband as well as friends and family that I don't see often enough. We have all just kinda co-existed at times this past year and I want to change that.

Hopefully you guys are all excited about the prospect of the New Year and have plans for yourself. I would love to hear them. Please leave a comment below telling me what you have planned.

A Long Walk Down a Winding Road by Sam Farmer - Review

The 411:

As the mother of a child on the Autism Spectrum I was excited to read this and hoped to be able to share tips and wisdom with my son who will be 17. I was thrilled that the author has a job, a wife, family and has obviously triumphed. While the story was good I was hoping for more. Maybe it is because the author had no idea he was on the spectrum until he was 40 but it would have been helpful to read more in-depth stories from his childhood. I believe many adults are on the spectrum and have no idea. In fact I believe my husband is on the spectrum as well as three co-workers and it hasn't stopped them all from having a wonderful life as has Sam.

Some children do not have good people in their corner as Sam had. He was very fortunate. I have been very fortunate to have wonderful people in my son's younger years.

I do however think my son will appreciate some of the tips Sam shares when he is finally in the working environment like be aware of the personalities of the people you work with and how you shouldn't expect to be respected which is very big in my son's world. He is all about feeling respected.
My prayer is that my son has as wonderful a future as Sam Farmer. I would have liked a lot more on how Sam dealt with relationships in his life and how he was able to have a lasting, loving, mutual respecting relationship with a woman but maybe he felt it was too personal. I wish Sam the best and hope he keeps writing. He has a lot of good information but I would have liked more!

Happy Halloween 2007

MY KIDSMY NAME IS MOMMYPHOTOS

Happy Halloween

copy-of-picture-1812.jpgcopy-of-picture-1793.jpg
Last night we headed into town to partake in the early treating being done by the merchants in our sleepy little town. Any store that wanted to participate placed a picture of a pumpkin in their store front to let everyone know that there was candy.
copy-of-picture-1806.jpg Holly Hobbie NOT Laura Ingells or a Little Prairie Girl!!!!
We had a blast. It was the most relaxing trick o’ treating yet. It was very quiet and the kids were able to be independent and as I watched from the doorways as they approached the store fronts on their own. There were no steps or long lines of bigger kids trembling over them to get to the candy. We went to every store who had a sign and it was great practice for the kids to practice their “trick or treat,” “Happy Halloween” and “thank you” before tonight.
copy-of-picture-1816.jpg This guys was just plain creepy. My son was very interested in this mannequin. BTW…there is the sign.
copy-of-picture-1822.jpg
I was so proud of them. I really enjoyed myself with them. They were polite, well behaved and all around fun to be with.
That’s my babies.
Tonight my husband was able to join us on our excursion through the neighborhood. I hope he got to see how well behaved, polite, and independent they have become. They had no problem going up to any house, saying what they were taught to say and coming right back to us.  They didn’t ask for candy while we walked around and when we said it was time to go, it was time to go. Much different than last year when Handsome had one of the worst meltdowns ever. It must have really drained and traumatize me because I didn’t even blog about it.
Currently I am sitting up watching Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi.   The are at Waverly Hill  until 3:00 a.m (6 hours). I am on my 3rd cup of tea hoping that I can hold out. The husband fell out about 10:15 so I am on my own. It’s almost 12:00, as long as I don’t lie down I will be ok.
copy-of-picture-1860.jpg There is Holly and Sportacus from Lazy Town getting treats from my neighbor. If only I had gotten more pictures and Sportacus wouldn’t stop for a picture at all. Damn it! I want more pictures.

Nursing 2005

These were posted on my Maria Space when I had Wordpress. I want everything in one place so sharing them here. If you want to see the posts about nursing they are linked below.

I waited a long time to have kids and wanted in the worst way to nurse them. For more on why these pictures were taken in the first place, go here or here.
