Amelia - A Review

In A Nutshell:
I refuse to watch my own videos before posting (if I watch, I will never post) so I apologize for any weirdness.

Hilary is amazing as usual! I had to remind myself that it was Hilary, she just become Amelia. Richard Gere and Hilary were amazing. The soft, quiet, gentle relationship that transpires between the two was fun watch. Hilary's Amelia is witty and subdued, smart and intelligent. I loved it!

Amelia just wants to fly. We hear often how she wants to be free and how she is a girl from Kansas who is suddenly thrust into this celebrity position. Watching her try to sell suitcases, clothing and more was sad. Amelia was a "Wonderlust," care free spirit who became the face of feminism. Where would women of today be without someone like Amelia Earhart paving the way?

The movie had a lot of lines that I wrote down in my notes as I watching but one of them that will stay with me talks about "confinement of even an attractive cage" being hard for her. Some people just want to be free. She was like that. She asked that obey be taken out of the marriage vows. Amelia was a strong, women who was comfortable in her own skin and knew what she wanted. Conforming is part of life and it is sad to think that while she was doing what she wanted to do, there was a part of her that still just wanted to be free.

This movie is awesome!

Thanks to an awesome PR person I have 3 copies to giveaway to my readers.

Banquet - Comfort Meals On A Budget

I moved out very young. It was the day of my High School graduation. After having problems at home, it was time to go so I went. As a kid with limited funds, a part time job at Kmart I ate a Banquet Chicken Pot Pie and Banquet meals, well a girl can't live on Romain Noodles and Spagetti O's can she?

With Banquet I felt like I was eating a home cooked meal. I could get a ton of them for under $5.00 and have enough dinners for the week. It was the kind of comfort meals I was used to without spending my whole little paycheck.

Wordless Wednesday - The Snowman

I love the face on this snowman that my husband made the other day.

Hear No Evil by Matthew Paul Turner - An Amateur Book Review By Me

Hear No Evil, My Story of Innocence, Music and the Holy Ghost by Matthew Paul Turner hit stores today. I can tell you this much, it is a great book and I am not just saying this.

I received this book to review from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group and when it came in, I opened and started reading it right away thinking I was going to finish this in no time. The cover is cute and the book in only 225 pages so it seems like I would have it done in a day. However I found myself re-reading passages, mostly because Matthew is a great visionary writer.  His narration is amazing, you feel like you are listening to a good friend. I loved his wit, quiet sarcasm and sense of self.

Every Life Has a Soundtrack.

In A Nutshell:  This book was a real eye opener for me. I found it interesting to hear how some young people living in Christian households are held back from so much.  Matthew discusses how he was unable to watch ET because a meeting had been called at his church to "inform parents of the dangers of Hollywood's rich Jews and gay men posed to Christianity". That the scene of ET and Elliott touching fingers was poking fun at Jesus and depicting Jesus as an extraterrestrial.  ET and Elliott were like Michelangelo's painting of God and Adam almost touching finger tips on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

This book reminds us how music transcends everything. How Matthew feels about music is how most of us feel. Music does something to us and we all feel it in the same but different way.

Ruby Tuesday - Brings the Holiday Drinks

In December my girlfriend Clary and I headed to Borders to do some Christmas shopping. While there I loved the way our Gingerbread Lattes looks and snapped this photo for Mary's Ruby Tuesday. Sounds great right?!Only one problem, I failed to download it from my Pinkberry until today.

So, without further ado, our drinks.

I Am Finally Connected To General Hospital

I have been a fan of General Hospital since 1979, I was 13 years old. It all started with my friend Chantel. Grab a seat, this is a looong story.

Rewind a few years, My mother was a fan of The Doctors and Days of Our Lives when I was a kid. I never watched it but I knew not to interrupt her when Doug and Julie were on. When she passed away, we moved to a new town and a new school. I was 12 and now living in a complex of Townhouse type buildings full of kids my age. My newest friend was Chantel and she watched General Hospital. She would run off the bus telling me she would see me at 4:00. We knew not to go to Chantel's house before 4:00. Eventually I decided to give this show a try and loved talking about it on the bus ride home.

We talked about Amy, Laura, Luke, Alan and Monica and the rest. It was awesome. Eventually I moved from the complex into Brooklyn (a world apart from where I was in Dutchess County NY) and changed schools 3 times before graduating, but General Hospital was a constant.

No matter where I was, who was in my life, what job I had, what boyfriend I had, General Hospital was there. I gave it up for life for about 2 years in the mid 90's but after landing in the hospital for 6 days when my appendix nearly killed me, I found it again. What else was there to watch on TV during the day before cable?

When I received word that Mom Central was looking for Ambassadors for General Hospital, I couldn't fill out the form fast enough.

I received the email yesterday that I was selected as an ambassador.

After 30+ years I am finally connected to GH and I couldn't be happier.

In the coming weeks, check my blog for the latest and greatest on everything GH.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - February 16, 2010

The Simple Woman's Daybook
FOR TODAY...February 15, 2010

Outside my window...Soft billowy snow keeps piling up.

I am thinking...how thankful I am that I kept the kids home from school today. The weather is horrendous

I am thankful....That my husband is on his way home.

I am remembering...playing in the snow this weekend with my family and tackling my son as we played.

I am going....to try to get some reading done and lie down to watch General Hospital later.

I am reading...Hear no Evil and The Awakening (Reviews are coming)

I am hoping...that my husband will arrive home soon. He is driving in the snow.

Noticing that...the kids loved their homeschool assignments today. Just because mom keeps them home from school, doesn't mean they get to lay around.

Pondering...my dad sending all his Disney movies. He loves his movies.

From the kitchen...left over Chinese food is the best

One of my favorite things..watching my kids hug each other

I've Become An Ambassador for The View

About 8 years ago a friend of mine got tickets for The View and asked me if I wanted to go. I wasn't really interested because whenever I watched it seemed it was a show about a bunch of woman who talked over each other and I am not one of those chick chicks. I don't love sitting in a room full of women who all want to talk at the same time, preferring to be with a smaller group of women who give each other the floor once in a while.

Fast forward a few years and The View became the show I loved to hate. Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi make me want to watch the show.

I love Sherri and how quiet, nice and real she seems and Whoopi, well that women is just funny. Love her and her calm demeanor and annoyed face whenever one of the others is on a tangent.

So when I saw that Mom Central was looking for Ambassadors for the show I applied. I didn't believe that I would be accepted because I wrote that this was the show I loved to hate.

Well, they accepted me and I am proud to post my official Ambassador banner.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox - Review

A few days ago I received a screener copy of a Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment movie called The Fantastic Mr. Fox starring George Clooney.

I love watching movies with my kids, my daugher especially loves to sit down and watch a movie with me.

In A Nutshell: The movie reminded me of some of the movies I saw as a child because the animation is "stop-motion" like the Rudolph's Shiny New Year and A Year Without A Santa Claus.

Roald Dahl is a brilliant author and James and the Giant Peach was one of my favorite books when I was growing up.

This is a grown up animated story. I tried to get my 4 year old to watch with me but she was uninterested. I think it is because the colors aren't as vivid and the images weren't as quick as the movies kids are used to these days.

There were parts I wasn't comfortable with like farmers shouting, "lets kill kim" before shooting Mr. Fox's tail off. Also, the scene where Mrs. Fox is bandaging up Mr. Fox's bloody butt, where his tail came off keeps replaying in my head. I could have done without the bloody bandage. Other than that, the movie was smart, and older children or adults may be more interested than your little one.

It was too wordy and slow for today's kids to sit through but the idea of stop-motion animation in a new format was fun. I really loved the soundtrack/score.

Here I Am

Who ever thinks they are going to be on a cereal box? It just isn't something I would think would ever happen. Glad to know it isn't a milk carton though!

A few days ago I told you about the campaign Shoprite did for Partners In Caring well. A few people have asked where I am on the box.

Here I am - see the red and white arrow? That is me. There are a few other spots too but you get the idea.  Fun right?!
