Christmas Movie Weekend Started With Sappy Holiday

FilmRise Presents Christmas Titles from Nicely Entertainment – SAPPY HOLIDAY and THE SNOWBALL EFFECT

 On Demand Starting November 25th

It’s never too early to start planning your Christmas movie queue, right? FilmRise is happy to announce two new family friendly titles to put on your holiday films watchlist from Nicely Entertainment, SAPPY HOLIDAY and THE SNOWBALL EFFECT.  Both are available on demand starting November 25th. Both titles will be available to purchase/rent via Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Microsoft Movies and YouTube.

Sappy Holiday Trailer

SAPPY HOLIDAY follows a hard-working but uninspired sous chef who accidentally discovers that her boyfriend is going to propose to her on Christmas Eve. She begins to doubt their future together; especially when a handsome farmer rescues her from a snowstorm.

I adore Christmas movies. Usually I watch before the family wakes or like this weekend when the kids are busy with their own friends and not looking to watch TV with me. The sappier the movie, the better and Sappy Holiday is sappy. It’s about a woman names Joy who gets stranded at a struggling Maple Syrup farm.  Before this she was sure she knew what she wanted until life gave her a little derailment in the form of an icy road.

Sappy Holiday doesn’t change the recipe for a good holiday movie. Lonely person (working too hard) meets another family who seem to have it all (massive farm house) only to find that everyone has their own struggle. Figures out everyone else’s life while still unsure of their own, leaves for that “before” life only to find out that they miss the new life they found.

I loved it! The characters are likable, no one hurts anyone to get what they want or need and in the end, ugly cry. Yeah! I did. It was a second but it happened. Judge me! I’m fine with that.

After dinner, The Snow Ball Effect unless my daughter wants to watch something else. I will take time with her over my movies.

 The Snow Ball Effect Trailer

THE SNOWBALL EFFECT finds two rival meteorologists Tara and Sam with the opportunity to move up to the big leagues, but first they have to beat an impending blizzard to the city for an interview. Instead, they get stuck in the village of ‘Mistletoe’ where the holidays are no longer celebrated.

Prep the hot chocolate, put on your Snuggies and grab some warm cookies, it's the holiday movie season!

My son the gamer told me that he thinks playing alone was boring but he could see how playing with up to 4 friends would be exciting especially if you are a die hard gamer. He loves playing against others and spends most of his day doing so.

He felt that the controls were easy to follow, the game has great graphics and he also thought it was fun learning about some sports he didn't even know were a thing. He is now excited to watch the next winter Olympics with us.

See his explanation in the video above. I wish I could play but honestly, I am the worst about trying to navigate games that require hand and eye coordination.

My son thinks it should absolutely be included in my Holiday Gift Guide so I have included it.

Four Easy Hacks to Make Better Eating Decisions this Thanksgiving

According to best-selling author Beth Linder-Moss…

Four Easy Hacks to Make Better Eating Decisions this Thanksgiving

November 18, 2022 – Best-selling author, Instagram and Tik-Tok influencer Beth Linder-Moss has four easy, free hacks anyone can use to prevent overdoing it at the dinner table this Thanksgiving. Beth discussed these in detail on her podcast, ‘The Beth Linder-Moss Podcast’ which can be heard anywhere podcasts are available.

How Eating at Thanksgiving Gets Hacked

‘Hack’ is a term borrowed from the world of computer programming. It’s meaning outside that field refers to an effective shortcut to accomplish goals or tasks in less time and less effort than usual. In terms of short-circuiting long ingrained eating habits, these tips fit the definition. “There are no flawless ways to eat perfectly during the holidays,” Beth told her listeners. “So set realistic expectations about eating at Thanksgiving and try these tips too.”

Four Hacks and One that Does Not Work

1.      To avoid overeating at parties and dinners, eat before you go. “The healthiest choices for food are not always available at parties or dinners,” Beth said. “I try to always eat a healthy meal before I go to one of these. That way I’ve consumed healthy food, am not hungry, and less likely to make poor decisions about consumption when partying.” Hungry people tend to make poor decisions when it comes to menu selection. Showing up hungry at a party is akin to grocery shopping on an empty stomach. “That is also a bad idea, so try not to shop for food when hungry or show up for a dinner with an empty stomach.”

2.       To feel full before the big holiday meal, drink water. Beth told her listeners that drinking a big glass water before a meal is a good way to feel full without eating. Water takes up a lot of space in the stomach. Added hydration is beneficial for weight loss as it aids digestion and muscle growth. The cost is negligible and the health benefits many.

3.      How often can workouts be skipped during the holidays? Because of travel, holiday gatherings, and out of the ordinary time pressure, getting outside to run or visit the gym may be more challenging than normal. But how many days can anyone miss a workout? “It is ok to miss a day,” Beth said. “But it is important not to let one day turn into two days.” Runners will need access to a sidewalk and their running shoes to complete their ritual run. Larger cities all have parks and places to run, walk or jog. Many national gyms have reciprocal memberships that allow workouts at affiliated clubs. But if none of those are available there are plenty of weight bearing exercises that do not require any equipment. To see plenty of those and how to do them, visit Beth’s Tik Tok channel: https://www.tiktok.com/@bethmoss2.

4.      Ways to avoid bad decisions at the table. This one is particularly challenging as all those sumptuous food items stare up at us from the table. “Some selections are bound to be healthier than others,” Beth advised. “Look for vegetables first. Avoid bread, fried food and those laden with sugar like candied yams.” When tempted to eat that cornbread dressing, pecan or pumpkin pie Beth suggested smaller portions. “I never try to tell people what to eat or not eat. But a spoonful of just about anything will not hurt you. No one will feel deprived with this approach.”

5.      A couple of things that will not work. Beth covered a couple of possibilities that are not useful for the health conscious at the holiday. For example, adding the word ‘just’ in front of a food selection will not make it smaller. “Saying I’ll just have one piece of pie or just one bowl of mashed potatoes will not lessen caloric intake,” Beth advised. Similarly, eating off someone else’s plate is not helpful. “There is no benefit for you taking food from someone else,” Beth intoned. “If you want to sample something that looks good, do so. Just remember the advice about smaller portions.”

Cost Effective Benefits

None of these hacks for Thanksgiving eating, or any holiday, come at any cost. None requires any special skills, scales, memberships, or equipment. Listening to the Beth Linder-Moss Podcast delivers tips like these and many others. Listening is also free. To listen or subscribe please go to: https://bethlinder-moss.com.

6 Tips for Making it Through the Holiday Season Healthfully

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio, a private personal training studio, puts health in the holiday spotlight

FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia – (November 14, 2022) – According to the American Psychiatric Association, Americans are five times more likely to say their stress level increases during the holiday season. Not only is stress not good for one's health, but it often leads to poor choices that further jeopardize our health. Stress can lead to overeating, under-sleeping, not exercising, and more. The good news is that there are things that can be done to make it through the season healthfully.

"Many people tend to let their healthy habits lapse during the busy holiday season," explains Jennifer Scherer, medical exercise specialist, certified personal trainer, and owner of Fredericksburg Fitness Studio. "In doing so, they will not only set themselves back, but they often regret it and have difficulty getting back into their healthier lifestyle."

The key is to maintain a healthy lifestyle despite the holidays. The season may be filled with more chaos, cookies, and crankiness, but keeping one's health a high priority will go a long way toward helping people get through feeling great. There are numerous things that people can do to keep their health in focus during the holiday season, including:

  • Swap ingredients. Make healthy swaps for certain ingredients in holiday dishes. Instead of using sour cream in a dish, you can swap it for plain Greek yogurt, for example. Put together a fancy charcuterie board filled with fresh veggies, fruits, and hummus, so that there is something healthy and filling to snack on. Focus on making healthy versions of traditional holiday dishes. Instead of green bean casserole, try sauteed green beans with almonds. Many options exist, so have fun taking on the challenge to make it a healthier holiday meal.
  • Portion control. Enjoying the holidays is OK, but having smaller portions of your meals will help keep things under control. Especially when being invited to several holiday parties. Opting for small portions of their favorite foods will keep people from feeling like they are missing out. Develop a system that allows for a couple of tablespoons of whatever food is desired. That way, nothing is off limits, and there won't be any overeating and feeling guilty later. Portion control is a crucial way to get through the holidays being able to have your favorite foods without packing on the pounds.
  • Maintain routines. Stay consistent with exercise routines. During the holidays, it's natural to get overwhelmed and busy. Focusing on getting workouts in will help everyone remember their goals and keep them at the forefront of their mind during the holiday season.
  • Remember mental health. Eating healthier during the holidays and maintaining an exercise routine will keep people feeling good. It’s also important to focus on mental health, which will keep stress at bay. Doing things such as yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature can help keep mental health in check during the holidays.
  • Having self-grace. When going overboard one day, remember that it doesn’t mean all progress is being thrown away. One bad meal or day doesn't mean the person is a failure. Humans can only do so much and need to be more forgiving of themselves. Remember to focus each day on one’s goals but don't beat yourself up if you have a weak moment during the holiday season.
  • Get help. Working with a personal trainer or health coach can be a tangible way to help people get through the season and feel like winners. By getting support, one's health can improve during the holidays or maintain their current status. Rather than putting it off for the first of the year, opt to get started with a medical exercise or health coaching program now, so the holidays are a breeze.

"Whether you could use some in-home training, personal training, or nutrition coaching, now is the time to get started with it," added Scherer. “Focusing on your health will get you through the holidays feeling like you gave yourself the most amazing gift ever."

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio is a private personal training studio that offers a range of services to improve health and wellness, including medical exercise, personal training, in-home medical training, virtual personal training, nutrition coaching, and a Pilates reformer program. All workouts on it are custom-tailored for the individual to address their physical fitness concerns. The Pilates Reformer program features a versatile machine designed to provide resistance. It can be used when standing, sitting, or lying down.

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio doesn't offer memberships as other gyms do. They offer private customized fitness programs that are available by appointment. Many people who go to the studio are referrals from physical therapists and doctors. The wellness professionals at the studio communicate with the medical teams to keep them up to date on patient progress. Be Prepared For The Cold And Flu Season This Year

I work in childcare which means I am often around little sick people who will cough and sneeze without covering their mouth. It goes with the job. Whether it is a cold, flu, strep, RSV, Pink Eye, Covid, it has been in my classroom and often times, I have no idea. Colds and allergies still exist so I cannot assume that every child in my care has something contagious, but I do everything I can to make sure that whatever is in my classroom doesn't affect me. This means I wash my hands about 100 times a day, wear a mask, wear gloves, don't touch my face, shower as soon as I get home and take off my work clothes. I also try to get 6-7 hours of sleep, take vitamins, drink immunity tea, stock up on cold meds and take my temp when I feel like I am coming down with something.

As we all know whenever we go out we can potentially bring something home to our family this is why I was so excited to check out the MOBI Smart products.

MOBI's easy-to-use smart tech tools help you focus more on being together with friends and family  than chasing away a cold. MOBI's Smart Wireless Wi-Fi Otoscope simply and gently allows you to see inside your inner ear, nose, or throat then record, track and share HD images with healthcare professionals so you can take the right steps for a speedier recovery. MOBI's Smart DualScan Ear + Forehead Bluetooth Thermometer is also a game changer. Get a read on their fever with the push of a button–no struggling, bribing, or crying required!

Available on Mobi's website, Walmart, Target, Amazon, Costco and many other stores nationwide.

RELEASE DATE | On Netflix November 18, 2022

Synopsis | Slumberland takes audiences to a magical new place, a dreamworld where precocious Nemo (Marlow Barkley) and her eccentric companion Flip (Jason Momoa) embark on the adventure of a lifetime. After her father Peter (Kyle Chandler) is unexpectedly lost at sea, young Nemo's idyllic Pacific Northwest existence is completely upended when she is sent to live in the city with her well-meaning but deeply awkward uncle Phillip (Chris O'Dowd). Her new school and new routine are challenging by day but at night, a secret map to the fantastical world of Slumberland connects Nemo to Flip, a rough-around-the-edges but lovable outlaw who quickly becomes her partner and guide. She and Flip soon find themselves on an incredible journey traversing dreams and fleeing nightmares, where Nemo begins to hope that she will be reunited with her father once again.

Slumberland is directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire & Mockingjay), written by David Guion and Michael Handelman (Night at the Museum; Secret of the Tomb) and produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, David Ready and Francis Lawrence. The film also stars Weruche Opia, India De Beaufort, and Humberly Gonzalez.

THE 411:

Just finished watching Slumberland starring Jason Momoa, Chris O'Dowd and Kyle Chandler.  Which is based on the comic strip, Little Nemo in Slumberland, by Winsor McCay

I am a huge fan of Jason Momoa and was excited to see him in this family friendly movie.

Nemo and her dad live in a lighthouse. They have a wonderful relationship spending all their time together. At bedtime she is entertained as he tells her bedtime stories about his and "Flip's" adventures in Slumberland. One night dad heads out to help rescue a boat and is lost at sea.  Nemo's life changes drastically as she is sent to live with her Dad's brother Philip. What can a girl mourning the loss of her daddy and her hermit, estranged uncle have in common? Absolutely nothing!

Nemo's dreams/nightmares are suddenly her happy place when she meets Flip who is an energetic, often seemingly deranged friend of her dads. Their adventures get off to a bumpy start as Flip is looking for a map to Slumberland that was Nemo's Dad's and makes a promise to Nemo that she will be able to see her father again.  While he cannot fulfil his promise, they eventually find themselves on some fun journeys.

Nemo and Flip need each other to heal and so does Nemo and her uncle. Together the duos rescue each other in the most entertaining way.

I was thoroughly entertained and loved everything about this movie. My daughter and I laughed often and enjoyed the flow of the movie and honestly cannot wait to watch it again and hear what everyone else thinks about it.

Jason Momoa as Flip is truly the best. A cross between Beetlejuice and The Cowardly Lion is how my daughter explains him. This is his calling. He did a great job of being funny, obnoxious and adorable. Jason and Marlow's scenes together were wonderfully fun!

In a nutshell; great cinematography, great sets, great cast, loved the visuals. The butterfly scenes must have taken forever to create.  Oh and before I forget; the PIG OMG...adorable. I couldn't get over how stinking cute it was.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary screener to review this movie for my honest opinion. No monetary compensation was offered.

New Book Helps Readers Discover Meaning and Creativity Through Dreams and Writing

“This scrumptious book is a writer’s delight and a dreamers’ dream….Packed with fascinating tips, prompts, and exercises, Dreaming on the Page will spark your imagination and have you reaching for your pillow and pen.”
Jean Benedict Raffa, award-winning author of Dream Theatres of the Soul and the Soul’s Twins

New Book Helps Readers Discover Meaning and Creativity Through Dreams and Writing

Dreams have been an undervalued yet ever-present wellspring of inspiration and creativity for writers through the ages. Author Tzivia Gover, a leading voice in the field of dreamwork, has published a new book, Dreaming on the Page: Tap into your midnight mind to supercharge your writing, which offers readers a unique method for accessing our naturally generous and creative dreaming mind, whether we remember our dreams or not.

“Dreams serve the writer, and when we write them down, we give new life to the dreams that have been living inside of us—eager to guide and inspire us—all along,” Tzivia says. “In my new book, I make these connections explicit and show readers what I have intuitively known for years: that dreams and writing are perfect bedfellows, and that by honoring both, we can live more fully connected and harmonious lives.”

Tzivia outlines five reasons why writers should record their dreams:
  1. Know thyself. Journaling dreams helps you better understand yourself from the inside out. Which in turn helps you understand your characters better, brings deeper empathy to your work, and makes you an all-around more interesting writer.
  2. Write regularly—and better. Building the habit of writing dreams each morning is a great way to build writing into your everyday routine.
  3. Never scratch for ideas again. As you record dreams in your journal, you are creating an encyclopedia of plots, landscapes, characters, themes, and ideas you can return to any time. You will never again have to begin a story, essay, or poem from scratch.
  4. Build a better relationship. As you interact with the raw and complex narrative structure of the storytelling subconscious mind on a regular basis, you build a relationship with your inner narrator. Over time you develop confidence in your ability to dream into a story at any time of day.
  5. Tone your metaphoric muscles. The metaphor-making part of our mind is highly activated when we’re dreaming. Writing dreams is a great way to build our literary muscles, including those that help us create metaphors and similes.
Dreaming on the Page also offers an effective outlet for anyone suffering from stress and anxiety to transform these troubling emotions through creativity using dreams as the catalyst. “I started writing this book before the pandemic, but with each churn of the news cycle, and each crisis we faced collectively during lockdown, I believed more and more that we need effective ways to engage with our stories. Personally, and in community, dreams and writing can help us make meaning from the lives we are living. Dreaming on the Page offers a way to do just that,” says Tzivia.

The book offers readers prompts, journaling tips, and exercises based on the psychology, science, and spirituality of dreaming to make the inner muse accessible to everyone who has a story to tell or a poem to write.  Tzivia divides the book into three parts.  Part One provides an overview of dreams, how to capture them on paper, and how to create a Dreaming on the Page daily practice that includes creating rituals for sleep, dreams, and journaling.  Part Two, The Generative Dream provides exercises to jump-start your writing, and is packed with exercises and prompts inspired by dreams to get your writing started.  Part Three discusses getting published and creating community and connections through dreamwork and writing.

Readers will discover how to:
•Turn your dreams into poems and stories
•Supercharge your poetry and prose
•Blast through writer's block
•Use brain science to help harness your creative powers
•Have an endless supply of rich writing prompts

As we start a new year, Dreaming on the Page is the perfect book to help guide us to our goals. Whether it is to finish a novel, deal with stress and anxiety, or to follow thoughts in a journal to see where they lead, Dreaming on the Page will provide ideas to support our intentions. So, pick up your pen and get ready to dream.

Celebrating 25 Years With My Man #Marriage #anniversary #datenight

My husband and I have been together a long time. We met 31 years ago on 440 in Jersey City. My friend noticed him for me as I had just broken up with a dude and loved long hair guys. She followed him to Bayonne, pushed me out of the car and said "talk to him before he thinks it was me chasing him."  I thought he was okay but not what I was looking for at the moment but got out and talked about his bumper sticker. WSOU Pirate Radio! "Where did you get that sticker?"

He had a guitar case on his back and I was immediately more into him. We exchanged numbers because I knew a lot of band folks and he was looking for a singer.

Here we are 25 years later and 2 kids. We never go out alone, but I had a gift certificate and he mentioned "are we going out to eat for our anniversary?" he even called it a "date night!" gasp!

We made reservations and thank God we did because it was packed. Dinner was expensive but delicious. I drove there and back which makes me super happy! I hate when someone else drives.

He had a Blue Moon and I enjoyed a house sangria which was amazing. I have never been a drinker usually opting for water but drank the whole thing.  I got a charcuterie board and we both got the short ribs.  I had a chocolate tarte with homemade maple ice cream. He was full as he ate lunch and I was like heck no! Dinner!

We enjoyed the place and the company was funny. Hopefully we spend many more dinners together. It has not always been easy but we have always managed to find a way.

Dollar Tree Bubbling Skull #Dollartree #preschoolactivity #halloween

My class loved the bubbling skull we did for Halloween. All the products were from Dollar Tree except the food coloring and baking soda which we had already.

I put a drop of food coloring then each child put two spoons of baking soda into the skull then a syringe of vinegar which was really good for their fine motor skills. I will definitely be doing this again! They loved it and asked for to do it again.

Heart Mind Box - Is A Perfect Gift Idea For Those Into Finding A Mental Balance

The Heart Mind Box is a purposeful gift box, from the Dalai Lama Center for Peach and Education and contacts a selection of ethically sourced products and experiences designed to nurture your Heart-Mind well-being; curated with love.

I was in love with everything about this box. The color red, the beautiful "doors" that opened to products under the red tissue paper that were selected to help the receiver of the box engage in taking care of their mind, soul and body.

In the box there was:

  • A book - The Wisdom of Compassion: Stories of Remarkable Encounters and Timeless Insights written by the Dalai Lama and Victor Chan.
  • Rosewood Mala Bracelets made in Nepal for this very box presented inside a Lokta paper gift box.
  • Loose Tea from the Assam Tea Gardens of India
  • (5) 20 Minute meditation candles and a holder
  • Dot Rock Painting set
  • Laser Engraved Bookmark with a Dalai Lama quote
In every box there is something that will help you connect to others, something that will encourage you to take care of  yourself, and a connection to the science behind well-being... this was probably the black sticks that are a mystery to me.

Definitely a great box for someone or yourself!
