Personal Day = No Rest For The Weary

I took my first personal day today. It was set up for a meeting that has since been cancelled but took the day anyway.

Since I am pet sitting I needed to be up anyway but still got that extra hour of sleep rounding out my sleep time to 6 hours and 30 minutes according to my iWatch. Not shabby I guess. Wish it was 8 but I just don’t seem to know how to sleep.

Fed my cats, made coffee, headed to pet sitting and then came home to do chores. Cleaned the dining room. Helped my husband toss some clothes out as he went through his drawers today and then cleaned the rug in my bedroom and got my son to vacuum the living room and dining room as I did the detail work on the edges and corners.

My husband wanted to change out the flower boxes to fall flowers so we did that. I decided to take a nap about 1:50 but my husband called me to put his clothes in the dryer just as I fell asleep.

My son and I did a review for a cornhole set which I am obsessed with.

It’s 3:25 and I will be heading out to pet sit again in about a half hour then I will shower and get ready for the next day because I need to be in bed by no later than 10 to be ready for 10-12 3 year olds tomorrow.

Does this sound like a personal relaxing day? How do you spend your personal days? How do you allow yourself to take a break?

My Day With Toddlers

6:30 – 7:00 a.m. • Wakes up, diaper change, sippy with milk (warmed 40 seconds in the microwave) and vitamin, take pacifier. He will usually hand it over when you offer the sippy. The pacifier needs to go away until nap so he doesn’t see it.
• Channel 13 – SESAME STREET
8:00 – 9:00 a.m • Breakfast can be: cheerios, banana or eggs with cheese and bread or anything else you want to make. I usually have a sippy with water out for him at all times.
• Brush his teeth. His tooth brush and paste are in the blue bin on the counter. He doesn’t love his teeth brushed. Let him do it himself and then take over.
9:00 a.m. • Channel 31 – THE WIGGLES – This will give you a half hour of peace. Believe me!
9:30 a.m. • Jesse’s clothes are hanging in his closet.
• His socks are in the bottom drawer of his crib dresser.
• Shoes are not needed unless he is going out.
• Offer a snack, it can be cheese sticks or ham, cheese crackers, Finger Foods in the pantry on the 4th shelf in the pantry
10:30 or 11:00 a.m. • Lunch can be – Ham, mac and cheese (try to put some mixed veggies in it from the freezer), bread, chicken fingers, fries, or anything else you feel like making.
• Jesse will probably bring his sippy to you for milk.
11:45 - 1:00 pm • Nap time – Jesse needs his pacifier and his blue blanket.
• He will lie on the couch with a pillow and you can keep the TV on. He is not used to sleeping with quiet.
• If you lie down with him he will fall asleep faster. If you leave the couch just put a pillow next to him so he doesn’t roll off.
• If you want you can move him to his crib but he sleeps longer on the couch.
2:00 – 3:30 • Don’t let him sleep longer than 2 hours or bed time will be difficult.
• He will sleep anywhere from 1- 2.5 hours if left to his own devices
When he wakes from his nap • Offer a sippy with milk. TAKE PACIFER. He will usually hand it to you when you hand him the sippy.
• You can again offer some kind of small snack.
4:30 – 5:30 • Sometime around this time is a good time for dinner. Dinner can be anything you make but what he mostly likes is, mac and cheese, chicken cutlets, fries, chicken fingers, meatloaf, ham, and try if possible to get some veggies in there.
7:00 – 7:30 • Around this time is a good time for PJ’s it lets him know that bedtime is around the corner. PJ’s are in the third drawer of his crib. Face wash, hand wash and brush teeth if possible. Jesse gets a bath every fourth day because of his eczema. If giving a bath he needs to be moisturized big time The TV and the kitchen light can be on. This lets him know that bedtime is fast approaching
8:00 –8:30 pm • There are no toys taken from the toy chest after 8:00 pm
• BEDTIME
• Jesse listens to music when going to sleep. The CD player in his room just needs to be turned on. He might do this himself for you.
• The lamp on the bookshelf should be on and the overhead light off.
• He will of course need his blanket and pacifier.
• When you leave the room just flip the switch of the camera towards the wall to turn it on. It is all set to go.
• The monitor for the camera is in the dining room on the table. You can put it on the half wall or floor so that you can go about your business while keeping an eye on Jesse. PARTY!

A Typical Conversation With My 9 Year Old

Did you punch Matt?
No...I hit him. I didn't punch him.
I am trying to help you honey!
I know. I know you are. You are doing the right thing.
So why would u hit him?
I didn't! I didn't do that.
You said you did. Did you do it on accident.
No! I did it on purpose.
Why? You know that is wrong. It is wrong to hit people.
No! You are saying I am wrong. and you are not being correct. I said I did. You don't even understand.
No honey, I said it is wrong to hit someone.
I did do it on purpose. Why do you keep saying I am wrong.
No! Honey. I am saying it is NOT OK to hit someone. You know that right.
Yes!
So, you know it is WRONG to HIT someone.
You are not correct. You lie.
I lie?
You keep saying I am wrong but I am right. I hit him on purpose.
Why?
Because! He had his arms on the table.
That is not your business.
I know.
So. You are not the teacher. You are not an adult. You don't tell someone that it is not right. You mind your business.
I didn't say that. I didn't say I am a teacher. You are lying.
No. I didn't say you said you were a teacher. I said it is none of your business to decide of someone is hogging up a desk.
I know.
Look honey, I am just trying to help you. Do you understand that?
I know. I know you are. You are doing the right thing.
How can I help you?
I don't know
What do I do with this? How do I make it better?
You change it!
How do I change it?
You throw it away and make a new one.

Handsome: Goddess goes to bed too late. It makes no sense.
Me: Nope
Handsome: Did you just gulp?

Living With An Autistic Young Man

He won’t let me take his picture!

My son has always been one of the best people I know. He is kind, considerate, loves his family, can talk to anyone and knows everyone on the block. All our neighbors find him polite and sweet. While he is all these things he is also not interested in anything unless it is his interests, doesn’t understand many things, is a gamer who only socializes with fellow gamers but only online. He doesn’t have any “real” friends who are looking for him to do anything except game. The social pragmatic communication disorder is his biggest hurdle.

This weekend we had an argument. We were in the car while I was driving him to his training. He will be working on the weekend starting this weekend. He went through a lot of money in the past three months. ALL of his money from savings and checking. He spent it on what else; gaming. I made him put $100 in each of his accounts using cash he had in his bank so that there would be something in his account.  We have talked about his spending before but I saw that he was starting to take money out again knowing he would have a paycheck soon.

I asked why he was taking money out and he said for lunch. I reminded him that he told me the business provides lunch on Tuesday. He said “Yes, they do provide it but I have to pay for it.” I told him that provides in this context would mean they give you lunch.” Him being able to understand basic things is where his disability is most seen.

He didn’t want to talk about it at all. “You don’t understand”, “You don’t get it.” “I’ve already told you?” “I know what I am doing, etc. I explained that saving his money is important and that although he should be able to spend some on his interests if he ever wants to have his own place, buy things for himself, support himself he will have to learn how to budget and asked him to once again explain what he is spending his money on.

We got heated when he decided not to explain, insisting that he already had and that I don’t understand. My husband is an undiagnosed autistic. I only understood this after my son was 15 and realized that the things I was seeing in my son was also what I was seeing in my husband. The things that my husband said and did that used to break my heart weren’t because of him being an asshole but his social pragmatic issue.

The conversation was heated, my daughter was at a sleepover so I had spent the night with two guys who were not talkers and sit on computers all night. My head hurt from the conversation and the loneliness of being without my daughter so a silent night. I told him that I needed conversation and it was alright to answer my questions, that I am his mother and was asking a legitimate conversation and wanted to understand his side. When he got louder and kept telling me that he was done talking. I said (something I am not proud of) “you know what, I am tired. I cannot live with two people who don’t talk unless they want to. That I understand you both don’t like to talk about things that aren’t interesting to you but I need more conversation. Neither of you  want to do anything but sit at your computer. Neither of you are loving or affectionate.  When your sister leaves, I should just go with her and let you guys figure it all out on your own.”

He told me that was fucked up and I shouldn’t say that. I knew we were getting closer to his job so I tried to de-escalate his mood by telling him how I worried about him and want him to have a good life where he is doing what he wants, his money, friends, a nice place to live.

We had calmed down a bit. It was time for him to get out of the car. He got out and said, “Something you said really fucked up my head!” He slammed the door and walked away.

I want him to be upset. I want to know that he understands the words that I am saying, paying attention to life and not just existing. He heard me. Was it the best conversation we have ever had. NO! I know that. But parenting is not always quiet and perfect. Sometimes it is friggin hard and loud. Sometimes we cannot pussy foot around. He is a 20 year old man in two months. He needs to get out of his little boy bubble where mommy and daddy take care of everything and he just does whatever he wants.

As I drove away, I thought whelp that was something. I had Siri text quick to find out his pick up time and he wrote back 2:30 THEN….

Him: IDK I feel disgusted with myself with how I walked away. That was unnecessary of me.

Me: It’s okay! Don’t worry about it. We were heated and mad. We can talk later.

Him: It’s my own fault.

Me: Sometimes people need to talk honey. They can’t make changes and understand each other without communication.

Him: I Understand but I like care about you deeply. If someone said anything about you I would step in and put them in their place. I love you mom but you don’t have to apologize, it’s not your fault.

(I know this was his understanding about me saying he isn’t loving.)

Me: Thanks honey. We were both heated and not in the best character. I love you and will see you later. Have a good day.

Him: I love you too. Thank you. You too.

The text message warmed my heart because it was such a mature thing to do. We were not talking about what had happened. We were talking about a pick up time. It was important because I know he understood the conversation. He heard me. Really heard me.

When he got in the car later. We hugged. I told him his text was very mature and how proud of him I was that he was able to see that this conversation wasn’t an argument like he thinks all conversations are. That we need to have conversations so we can understand each other.

When we got home we went our separate ways doing the things that needed to be done. He checked in with me a few times. Hanging outside with me. Hanging in my room with me. Conversing about weather yard work, the cats. It is a baby step but I LOVED every moment of our time together. His birth was the best day of my life. He is one of the best people I know. He speaks from his heart and that already is a step above most people.

My Life In Pictures May 11 - May 17 , 2021

May 11 - Someone turned 18! I cannot even believe that we were in the hospital having a baby 18 years ago. Handsome my Jesse is the sweetest boy. He always hugs us goodnight, says good morning and hugs me before he leaves my car in the morning. He is a gamer and a teen so usually gaming at his computer with his headphones on. We don't see him much unless he comes out of his room to get something to eat but I'm happy that at 18 I know where he is and can keep him safe from all the negativity in the outside world. As you can see, we didn't dress up for this picture and I wouldn't want it any other way. This is us.

May 12 - Out with Goddess on a glorious day. We walked around the Village of Warwick taking in some of the beautiful historic mansions and the blooming flowers. Great day for a walk about.

May 13 - Goddess' bestie came over with a gift for her birthday from bestie's Grandma Rose. How sweet is this?

May 14 - A Co-workers mom works at an animal shelter and was kind enough to come in with a guinea pig for my class to see. They were beyond excited.

May 15 - Baby birds under the deck every year means we get to watch nature do its thing. Aren't they the sweetest?!

May 16 - This is Brian. We have been watching him and his cat brother and sister for years. He is currently a tri-cat (three legs). We were excited to see him after hearing about his surgery. He is an old boy and very sweet. I have had to medicate him the last few times I watched him. Honestly, he takes it pretty well.

May 17 - Seeing the art wall at work outside each classroom full of art makes me so very happy.

My Big Decision About Holding My Son Back From Kindergarten

PRESCHOOLSPEECH

Big Decision

Today was my CPSE meeting for my son.
I always wake with a heavy heart on these morning.
Last week I was given the reports from the therapists and have gone over them at least 8 times with a fine tooth comb, making notes, highlighting, circling, etc.
Monday the therapists and I had a meeting so that we could go over the reports, discuss where things had changed, and so that we were all on the same page. It is really hard sometimes to read the reports because while they paint a broad picture of your child’s progress, the test numbers are there and most of the time they are lower than actual.
Looking over the paperwork for the last time last night, I decided something that I had mostly planned since he was 2.5 years old. I decided it would be in his best interest to hold off Kindergarten for a year and put him in different preschool to give him exposure to a different curriculum.
This morning I headed over to the preschool after dropping off Handsome. We spoke about enrollment, I grabbed the paperwork, dropped my daughter off at my girlfriends and headed to the meeting armed with the knowledge that I would not be sending him to Kindergarten.
It is always strange walking in, I know the therapist and the Chairperson and the child (mine) we are about to speak about. There are 4-6 other people there to discuss my son and together we are to come up with his new IEP.
Today I was just waiting for the moment when I could say my big decision is “I’M NOT SENDING HIM TO KINDERGARTEN THIS YEAR!”
As soon as I said it I saw eyes rolling to each other, and breath being held. I started my explanation of the tests and how as I read the tests I had circled about 25 places where he was only at a 3.2 year old – 4.5 year old level. I asked them why we would rush a kid into Kindergarten if he wasn’t ready. He is going to have to do a minimum of 12 years of school so what if he starts this year or next year?
They tried to play devils advocate and offer all kinds of solutions and concerns.
Since he is so academically advanced would this hinder the advancement? No because the Pre-K has a very structured academic program.

Would he feel like he was around a bunch of babies if he were to stay in a Pre-K
setting? He is classified as a Preschooler with a special delay so talking to younger kids (at his speech level) may actually give him confidence.

We could have a Para follow him around the class for the day. No, he already has a SEIT follow him around for the 2.5 hours he is in school and he would prefer her to not be there.

We could start him in Kindergarten and then hold him back again if he is not ready for 1st. No, I actually think this would do more harm than good. His friends moving on and him staying back? Why repeat Kindergarten?
I stood my ground and understood why there were concerns but I truly believe that even if he was main stream this would not harm him.
The chairperson told me that if he was not academically where he was she would try to steer me in another direction but she knows that I constantly work with him.
She also gave me a wonderful compliment in that she has never met a mother who knew her child more than I do. “Every parent knows what’s best for their child, but I never met someone who knew their child like you do.” I do try. There is nothing more important to me than my children.
I am excited about his new Pre-K and can’t wait to see how he progresses over the summer.
The chairperson also told me that at anytime I feel that he would do well in Kindergarten or that I made the wrong decision (no matter where we are in the school year) she will put him in kindergarten.
So positive. I wish for everyone to have such a positive CPSE experience.

My Boy Graduates Preschool

MANIC MONDAYMY NAME IS MOMMYPRECOCIOUS SON/HANDSOME

Manic Monday – Pride

The word at Mo’s Manic Monday is Pride.
This is going to be a piece of cake. I have been brimming with pride ever since Friday, June 20th when my son graduated Pre-K.
Walking into his class room with his father who has only been to school once I thought for sure he would bolt from his seat and give his teacher a hard time when she asked him to sit.
He was one of the 85% who were able to contain themselves. They sat looking at us (the families) while we stared at them for about 15 minutes before the festivities began. There was a time when he stood up to walk over 10 minutes in but his teacher asked him to sit and he did.
Last year he would not sit and I was unable to get any pictures of him and his class. This year, he stood with the class and posed for 100 pictures as all the families snapped away.
I was so proud that he went up for his diploma with a big smile on his face(last year his teacher had to ssssstretch and hand it to him). Proud that he posed with his therapist and his teacher for pictures and proud that he sang all the songs, the national anthem and counted in Spanish 1-10 and then backwards. Love it!
So cute to see all their little faces as they leave the school and high five each other.

My Spitty Boy

Now go to sleep you little child of mine. I wish I had the beauty you hold inside
Now go to sleep you little boy of mine. You make the world a better place to find.
Lyrics by Scott Weiland

I love his face on this picture. He was making a motor boat sound and just really playing with new sounds.

He was teething and very spitty. He was also very proud of himself as he climbed up on the handle of his wagon while holding onto a dining room chair. I wanted him to challenge himself and he really did think he was a big deal.

The Handsome Dialogues - What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up - Part 1

October 15, 2007
We were sitting on the swing the other day when I asked the age old kid question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I really didn’t know if he would understand what I was asking but tried anyway.
Handsome – I want to go to college
Me – What do you want to go to college for?
Handsome – I want to learn how to drive a blue bus and learn how to go to the library
Me – What else do you want your teacher to teach you?
Handsome – I want them to teach me how to have lunch and how to do the computer.
Part 2
Wondering if he would answer the same way I asked again 5 minutes later.
Me – What do you want to be when you grow up?
Handsome – I want to be Santa Claus
Me – You do? That’s cute baby.
Handsome – I want to wear his hat, pants and belt.
So I guess he want’s to be a stripper Santa. Not really sure what that means actually but I can’t wait to ask the question again.

Little Cheeks In A Blue Bandana

My son was 7 months old in this picture. I love it because of the blue headband but more importantly, look at those cheeks.  They look like they are going to fall right off his face. He was playing his little piano and wearing his binky clip because he was such a binky boy. Funny, I never called it a binky, always a pacifier, even to him. I just couldn’t do baby talk.
I also love these pj’s because they reminded me of the Cookie Monster. He was big, blue, fluffy and so damn adorable.

My Little Guy Will Soon Be 17 Years Old

This is a picture of my son from 16 years ago. I adored it then and I adore it now. It is one of my favorites.

Handsome Begins His Acting Career - September 6, 2007

The weather has been incredible. I love this time of year it makes me feel so alive. The air is crisp and the colors are starting to turn on the trees. I have spent the past 4 days outside just enjoying being outside.
Handsome starts Pre-K on Monday. He is so excited so it is hard to be sad about it. He spent the summer asking “I have school tomorrow?” I can only hope this enthusiasm for his education continues well into into school career.
He has fallen in love with the movie “Zathura” from 2006 and walks around the house ALL DAY, acting out scenes from the movie.
It is a cute movie about 2 brothers who end up in outspace fighting off aliens space ships and rescueing an abandoned astraunaut. It’s a your basic story of two siblings who bicker and are competive all the time but they have to work their their relationship in order to work together to get themselves and their house back home.
Through most of the movie the actors are suspended by wires as the house supposedly flies through space or they are running from a robot set to destroy them. Handsome hangs from everything trying to have his feet fly out behind him while he shouts, ‘Walter, help” or ‘Danny!” It’s so funny to see him take such an interest in a movie that is not Wiggles, Barney or Blue’s Clues. The only negative thing in the movie is when the younger brother calls his brother a “dick.” Lovely, but so far, Handsome hasn’t noticed and the one time he did copy the dialogue he said, “you’re a bic” fine with me. I won’t be correcting that anytime soon.
For some reason he has also taken to posing for my camera in weird legs spread, hands in the air, and wide mouth. I still haven’t figured that one out yet.
Next movie up…Goonies. I can’t wait to hear “Goonies never say die” and “Everything. OK! I’ll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max’s toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog… When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out… But the worst thing I ever done – I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa – and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.”

Handsome And The Reading Train

Down at the station early in the morning, See the little Puffer Bellies all in a row. See the engine driver pull the little handle, Chug, chug, toot, toot, Off they go.
This was a big blow up train that my sister got him for his 1st birthday. It was a ball pit too.  I wish I had kept if longer than I did. We got rid of it probably around the time that my son would have really gotten much joy out of it. It took up a lot of dining room area. Just before my daughter was born I took it down to make room for the pack and play and bassinet. I really wish I had held onto it and put it up the next year. Handsome spent so much time crawling through the train or just sitting and looking through his picture books.

My Niece and My Baby - July 2008

During my son’s 2nd year, my niece came to spend some time with me in the summer. I loved having her here and my son had a playmate. She was my favorite baby when she was born and I love her as if I birthed her myself. She is very loving, sensitive, sweet and affectionate, a real lovely addition to our small family for a few weeks in the year. It was nice having a girl to spoil too. Not that I could do much with her financially but I took her to lots of farms, parks, we went to the library a lot. We read together or she read to us. I brushed her hair after she showered and just enjoyed making her summer as special as I could in hopes that she would want to come back. I remember spending summers with my cousin Carol and her daughters. It made me feel so grown up to visit away from home for so long and I usually got to do things that I wouldn’t normally do at home.

Handsome Update - Speech and Special Instructions - April 7, 2006

So the kid that is in speech therapy and special instruction according to an evaluation by professionals is currently…
Well wait..let me catch you up…
Handsome will be 3 in May and last summer while talking to some people; they told me (because they know everything) that I should have him evaluated because there were some things that should be “red flags” to me that could indicate a potential learning disability. I thought they were no-it-all kooks and went home. After sitting on it for a day I thought that perhaps these well-meaning folks were onto something. Maybe as his mom I wasn’t seeing any problems because to me he is absolutely perfect. But…what if I ended up being a reason that Jesse didn’t live up to his full potential. I decided to have him evaluation against my better judgement. So three strangers come to my home last June and try to get Handsome to do tricks for them. He knew his alphabet, knew his body parts, knew his shapes and colors but refused to perform with these strangers. I was told upon a 20 minute evaluation that he would be eligible for speech and special instruction. We started Special Instruction with a women who basically didn’t know what to do with Handsome and would come and talk to me most of the time. I was about to change her when she actually pulled herself out and gave me someone in her place. I adore the person who does Special Instruction with Handsome. It is a glorified 45 minute playdate but he and I really look forward to it.

Handsome speech instruction started last October and really knows what Handsome likes and doesn’t like. I have seen Handsome’s speech progress over the last few months but I cannot contribute this to his speech therapist. I think he would have been doing this anyway.
Before these sessions began Handsome knew all his letter, his shapes, and his colors with words and jargon here and there. Like he could not say milk it was “ilk” but hey most kids have some pronouncation problems when they are hello like 2 years old. Give me a break..
He was re-evaluation by the Board of Education because upon turning 3 he would be considered a pre-schooler and would not be eligible for Early Intervention past August 31st of this year. I sat with 11 strangers two weeks ago who by looking at a 30 page report (information gathered from 20 minute interviews with some more strangers at an evaluation facility) on Handsome were about to tell me what Handsome would benefit from. The night before the meeting I sat down with the report and made notes in the margin where there was a change, a discrepancy or where I felt something was taken out of context.
I walked into the meeting said “hello” and before taking my coat off handed the group 8 pictures of my son taken this month. I told them “This is my son, you can pass the pictures around. You only know him from this report and I want you to see the person you are about to talk about.” They were pleasant and told me that they wished more parents brought pictures. After listening to them discuss my son, and that they thought he would benefit from 5 days a week at a facility and 3 hours a day with speech, special instruction and occupational therapy. They mentioned a school bus that would pick up my son and bring him home afterwards. I had done my homework and knew all about the program and the bus.
I told them that I was not ready to place Handsome in a program yet and that I would definitely not be putting him on a bus to go 45 minutes from home. They talked about the safety of the bus and the program. I told them that I had all the information I needed at this time but that as Handsome’s only advocate in the meeting. I would like the extension that would take his current services to August 31st and then I would consider the program after that time. I told them that since the report was written 2 months prior there were so many changes and went over a few with them. I also discussed some things that I thought were out of context or discrepancies (and there were quite a few).
Basically the way it was left was that we would keep the current services Handsome receives until August 31st. After that I will either end services or meet with the group again to discuss what I want for Handsome. Basically I think that none of this can hurt him but I will not be putting him on a bus, or into a 5 day program. He is only going to be 3 and God damn it he is doing wonderful and a full day of school will be starting soon enough.
So the kid who according to the Board of Education needs services currently..
Knows his alphabet on sight, knows his shapes, knows his colors, says about 350 words (some more clearly than others but this gets better everyday). He says “please” when he wants something, “thank you” when he is given something and bless you when someone sneezes. He says “I love you” and “a hug” when he wants a hug.
He also spells:
Blue, X-ray, Read, Book and Home on his own. He draws lines, circles and faces. Ok the faces are cyclops but really the only thing missing is the other eye. Hell they even have hair and a hat!
He is not an angel, he has some occassional tantrums like most kids his age but I think he is perfect just the way he is..
I can’t wait until August when I can go back to the BOE and tell them that I have decided against continuing his services. I can hope!

Lake Time Action 2008

My husband tossing my kids in the lake were my favorite kind of action shots. I love the water stream and my son's happy face.

My Week In Pictures Aug 10, 2008 - Aug 17, 2008

August 10, 2008 – I took this picture of a some kind of huge bee. We had zipped up the gazebo when we spotted him buzzing around. He was the size of a small hummingbird. After looking at him lying on the table in some sort of spasms I may never kill another bug in my life. Look at those eyes.

August 11, 2008 – My son is so happy in this picture. We had been holding hands and spinning. He had crayons in his hand saying they were like a rainbow. I snapped this just as I let go of him while spinning.

August 12, 2008 at the park early morning with my kids. We like to go before the crowd. We usually go about 3 times a week and I spend 20 minutes of our time pushing my son on the swing. He loves it but I need him to start doing it himself. I am not helping him if I keep doing it for him. He just looked so sad sitting there as he begged me to push him.

August 13, 2008 My 42nd birthday. Interestingly enough there is not one picture of me this day. Not me getting my card or blowing out the candles on the mini cake I made either. Tear. Anyway…my friend Sheress and her children dropped by with their dog who was wearing a dress. The dog not Sheress.

August 15, 2008 I went and got my nose pierced. I have wanted one since college and never did it. The other day my husband mentioned that he was going to tell the mortician who embalms me to just pierce my nose, “she always wanted one.” I decided then and there that I waited long enough. I took my kids with me, my son held my hand and it took all of two seconds for the piercing, 3 minutes of bleeding which started 2 minutes after he was telling me that it was amazing that I wasn’t bleeding. Then about 2 days of a dull ache.

Ok, I digress..The picture…my son waited 3 weeks for this Blue’s Clues chair. He had to sleep in his own bed (not come in mine in the middle of the night) for 10 days. Every day that he did he got a Blue’s Clues sticker on a special calendar. When we finally gave it to him blown up (he was allowed to have it the whole time just not blown up – for 5 days it was in the box and the remainder, the box was opened but it wasn’t inflated) he was ecstatic. His face was priceless andhe walked around saying, “my chair is so beautiful.” This is him in his sister’s room playing X-Box.

August 16, 2008 – The annual Oz BBQ. This year the theme was Ozzapaluzza. It was awesome. My kids rocked, the food rocked, the company rocked, the music, what I did hear rocked and the coffee on my way home ROCKED.  My son’s Godmother Bek bartended and hosted a fab shindig which was supposed to feature Alternative music but somehow someone requested Brad Paisley’s, Tick song. Go figure. Interesting choice, since the person who requested the song, may or may not, have children who brought home some ticks, after feeding bread to a deer with the help of Bek’s cohost Ohio.

August 17. 2008 – Totally rocking the nose ring.
