How To Care For Your Cat

Keeping your cat happy and healthy is no small task. From regular checkups to diet monitoring, the responsibilities of being a cat owner are manifold. Fortunately, with the right knowledge, you can keep your feline friend happy and healthy for many years to come.

Check-Ups

It might seem unnecessary for a seemingly healthy cat to visit a vet for check-ups, but these rituals could be vital for your cat's health. For example, regular trips to the vet can help you catch any health issues and diseases early on, which makes them easier to treat and cure. Furthermore, regular visits are a great way to get to know the vet and have your cat vaccinated against deadly diseases like rabies. Vaccinations are especially important if your cat spends a lot of time outdoors. If your cat ever has health complications that you can't afford to treat, there are lenders that you can reach out to for financial assistance with vet bills.

Food and Nutrition

As with humans, the quality of your cat’s diet greatly affects his or her overall health. Therefore, you should carefully choose the type of food to feed your pet and try to avoid processed and unhealthy options whenever possible. A good rule of thumb is to opt for foods that have been certified by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). These are the same types of food that are recommended by vets. Your cat’s diet should primarily include proteins and fats, with a moderate amount of carbohydrates and other nutrients. In terms of feeding frequency, kittens can be fed up to three times a day, while adult cats should be given one or two meals a day.

Litter Boxes

Cats are naturally very clean animals, and most will instinctively use a litter box to do their business. However, there are many factors that can affect a cat’s litter box usage. For example, certain diseases, metabolic disorders, pregnant and nursing cats, and even certain types of medication can lead to frequent litter box accidents. It might help to set up several litter boxes around your house so your cat always has easy access to one of them. Also, litter boxes can be a breeding ground for harmful bacteria, so you need to keep them clean and regularly disinfect them. There are many different types of litter boxes available on the market, but the most important thing is that you find a type that your cat is comfortable with.

Cats are very independent creatures and you might expect them to be easier to care for than dogs. However, keeping your cat happy and healthy can still be a challenging task. Luckily, with the right knowledge and effort, it’s possible to stay on top of things. Keep in mind that all cats are different and you might need to take some extra steps to properly care for yours. If you have any experienced cat owners in your life, don't be afraid to ask them for help if you're unsure about something.

"5 Summer Entertaining Tips to Beat The Heat of Inflation"

With summertime officially in full swing, temps across the country are soaring - much like the inflation that’s had a stranglehold on the economy for far too many months now.

With many American families cutting back on expenses amid record setting grocery and gas prices, there are tips and tools for coping—which means you can still fire up that grill and invite the neighbors over without burning your budget.

Here’s how to do it affordably with tips from Coupons.com Savings Expert Lisa Thompson.

1.     Bring back the good ol’ potluck. With all the entertaining opportunities from the Fourth of July to backyard BBQs, pool parties, family reunions, and the like, sharing is truly caring - invite everyone to pitch in and add their favorite dishes or snacks to the festivities. It’s even easier if you create a theme like "Taco Tuesday" or  a make-your-own hot dog bar, DIY kebabs on the grill (everyone bring something to skewer and a side dish), or even just a s’mores spread with a variety of options. Not all entertaining has to include a full meal.

2.     Use an app that earns you money.  The best way to make a dent in food prices right now—with an immediate return —is by using a savings app like Coupons.com, which allows you to earn instant cash back on everything from sunscreen and ice cream to condiments, hot dog buns, and even paper goods. It’s literally like getting free money, which can add up and go a long way in stretching your entertaining budget.

3.     Layer savings and sales.  Take advantage of existing store sales by pairing those discounts with cash back offers on your savings apps.  Shopping at Target where they happen to have six-pack sodas on sale, 3 for $12? Check your cash back app where they may have offers for $3 back on 2 six packs, and you've just doubled your total savings!

That cash back will be deposited right into your PayPal account, and you can even link your Target account to the Coupons.com app for automatic savings (no need to even submit a receipt).

4.     Try something new. Every first day of summer, my kids and I have a longstanding tradition of making banana splits for dinner. Just banana splits—and a slew of toppings. We’ve extended this tradition to now include friends, so the price tag has gone up a bit. My solution? This year, I scrolled through my Coupons.com app, found two brands of ice cream we’ve never tried—both with cash back offers. They’re delicious, less expensive, and I’ve decided that my brand loyalty ends when I can find something I like just as much for way less money.

5.     Let nature be your décor. It’s easy to go overboard on decorations when you’re hosting a birthday party, holiday celebration, or baby shower—but you can create a vibe without blowing a wad of cash, especially if the event is outside. Buy some fresh flowers that fit your color scheme or theme - sticking with the same color will add a lot more bang for your buck. Create a great playlist and let music set the mood—that’s free. If it's an evening gathering, light a few candles or use some cool outdoor lights. . That’s it. Keep it simple, affordable, and easy.

Lastly, focus on the fun of finally being able to get together in-person with family and friends...after way too many hours of Zoom and FaceTime. That’s your ticket to a successful summer of entertaining.

The Coupons.com mobile app is available for download in the App store and on Google Play.

Home Safety Survey: 12 Years Old is the Age For Holding Down The Fort Alone

It’s no secret that parents struggle to pinpoint the appropriate age to introduce children to fire and firearm safety materials; when they can cook by themselves, or when they can be at home alone before or after school.

But according to SafeHome.org’s Parenting In America Report — the trusted authority on home and personal safety — countless parents have shared their two cents on a few very big milestones for safety at home.

>> It's Never Too Early To Start Teaching Fire Safety
By age 2, children can be introduced to fire safety and learn about how they can help prevent fires, as well as what to do if a fire breaks out at home.

>> Firearm Safety: Teach Them Young
About 15% of parents say 5 is the age at which they felt learning about gun safety was appropriate, but nearly 14% said 10 years old.

>> Should Children Be Left Home Alone After School?
Among this parent group, the most common answer was 12, with 30% of parents selecting this age, however, 43% say only teenagers should be home alone before or after school.

>> Kitchen Tasks For Different Age Groups
There isn’t firm guidance from child health experts but 26% of parents responded with  age 12. Many factors play a role, including the size and maturity of the child and cooking fuel used for the stovetop.

To find out about additional appropriate ages for toddlers, children and teenagers in relation to inside and outside of the home, check out the full report here

Tomorrow is National Hydration Day: Beach Goers Prioritize Packing Snacks More Than Water

Tomorrow is National Hydration Day (June 23), and it’s important to remind others to drink plenty of fluids - especially under the hot summer sun.

MedStar Health recently conducted a

survey and found that beach goers are more likely to pack snacks (78%) than water (60%).

Skipping out on H2O can lead to major health risks, here are a few things you can do to make sure your body is healthy and full of fluids:

Be Aware of Dehydration Symptoms

Nobody is immune to the risks of not staying hydrated enough, which is why it’s important to be aware of symptoms that can easily sneak up on you:

  • Fatigue
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Drowsiness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Dry mouth/skin

Set Reminders To Regularly Hydrate During The Day

Health experts recommend that an adequate fluid intake is equivalent to eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day (around half a gallon). Write out reminders on post-it notes or type them into your phone. After following these reminders for a while, they’ll likely become a habit that you’ll practice without even thinking about it.

Make Your Water Tasty

If you avoid drinking water because you find the taste a little bland, you can add flavor with fresh fruit like berries, lemon or cucumber slices.

Eat Water-rich Fruits and Vegetables

There are lots of fruits and vegetables that have a high water content, such as: watermelon, peaches, pineapple, strawberries, zucchini, tomatoes, and cucumber. Add these to your diet and stay hydrated all summer long!

I never go anywhere without water. I have a constant nasal drip which makes me very thirsty so I drink a ton of water but my new favorite is !Cactus! Organic Cactus Water. The Desert Hydrator It is so good.

Visiting Disney With Kids - What Do You Need to Know

If you have kids, you will know how important and essential a trip to Disney is. Getting the chance to experience the magic and wonder of Disney can keep your little ones as little for as long as possible. At any age, there are lots of things to see, and certainly, lots to take in. So, how can you successfully visit Disney, and how can you do it with kids. Preparation and planning will help you make the most out of your time at Disney, so what do you need to focus on first?

Arranging in Advance Will Save You Stress and Time

As you will know, with children, you need to arrange and plan as much as possible. The more that you arrange, the greater amount of control you will have over all aspects of your vacation. There are lots of things you can arrange in advance, from your flight and travel arrangements, right on through to the resort or accommodation you will be staying in. When you are traveling, you want as little stress as possible, and achieving this, planning and arranging are a must.

Preparing for the Journey and Flight is Crucial

“Traveling with kids can be interesting.

How are you going to get to Disneyworld in Orlando? Do you need to take a flight? If you are traveling by airplane, you will need to start establishing which flights work well for you and your family. For example, if you are traveling long-haul, what hours of the day will you want to travel, and which providers are you going to be looking at? Flights can be tiring and exhaustive, and with children in tow, they can be soul-destroying! The more planning and preparation that you do, the more successful your journey will be. As well as purchasing flight tickets and arranging transfers and onward travel, you also need to think about how you will keep your children entertained on the flight/journey.

Parks Are Big - Exploring Takes Time

When you finally arrive at Disney, and you start exploring the parks, you need to realize how big the parks truly are. If you try and do too much in one day, it will leave you and your kids feeling exhausted and frustrated. Covering a park over a couple of days may be best for you and your family. For example, Magic Kingdom with smaller children in tow may take 2-3 days to fully cover. Trying to do it in any less time will lead to lots of tears and overtiredness. When you are blasting around the official parks, you need to remember that exploring and taking time to take it all in is just as important as anything else. When you are trying to fit everything into just one day, you will often find that you overlook (or miss) the small things that may make those magical moments and memories.

Strollers Are Necessary for Smaller Children

If you are traveling with smaller children - those under 4 in most cases, you will need to make use of the park strollers. These are available on a daily charge (or you can rent them for longer) so think about how long you will want to use a stroller for, as this will ensure that you get the best value. Little legs get tired very easily and quickly, and to ensure that this does not end up in temper tantrums, which can ruin a day, you need to ensure that you have wheels to support those little legs. Even if your child is reluctant to use a stroller, you will find that it will save you a lot of stress. Of course, when you are going on any rides and traversing the parks, a stroller may not be what you want, but it may be what is needed.

Resorts Are Best to Stay In

Westgate Vacation and Town Center

“Plenty of fun in the Florida sun for little ones”

When you are traveling with children, you want everything to be as straightforward as possible. Renting a villa and doing all of the cooking will feel tiring, and it won’t feel like much of a vacation for you. Hotels are Ok, but to get the full Disney experience and to enjoy as much of your vacation as possible, you need to stay in a resort just like the ones HERE at westgateresorts.com. When you stay in a resort, you ensure that everything is on-site and easy to use, from bars and restaurants to kids' clubs. You may also find that some resorts offer more than you expected. For example, some have golf courses. Others have water parks. Resorts offer very good value for money, and they are often well located, which means you can travel around with children with ease.

In Summer It Can Be Very Hot

Orlando has moderate temperatures all year round, and it often has more sunshine than showers. However, in summer, temperatures can become unbearable - especially for smaller children. When it is too hot, they will feel lethargic, and they will not be in the mood for blasting around rides and theme parks. Make sure that if you are traveling to Disney that you take suitable clothing and protection for your kids and everyone in the family - for all seasons. Temperatures can be sweltering at times, and this can be uncomfortable, especially for little ones who are trying to explore and enjoy the magic of Disney. Similarly, if you are traveling in the off-season (in wintertime), you will want to pack a poncho, jacket, and raincoat to cope with the changeable weather.

Meet and Greets Are Magical

When you are heading to the official parks, you will have the opportunity for your little ones to meet and greet their favorite characters now that these sessions have been reintroduced. From Mickey and Minnie Mouse, all the way through to Elsa from Frozen or Rapunzel, there will be a character that your child/children will want to meet. Meet and greets are truly magical, and they can help your children connect with Disney and all of the characters. Meet and greets can be especially popular in busy periods, so if this is something your children want to do, you must make sure that you book in advance.

What You Pack and Travel With is Important

As well as sorting all of your travel arrangements out, you also need to make sure that you pack everything that you and your family need for the trip. If you forget something, you will be able to buy it in Orlando or Florida, but it may cost you more than it would to simply bring it. In addition to your beach clothes, and light clothes, you will also need to ensure that you pack socks, comfortable walking shoes (or sneakers) as well as wattle bottles, and mini fans in summer (or ponchos in the rainy season). It often helps to have a list that you can use in your packing. This way, you can tick off items as you pack them, and you can be sure that you carry everything you need for an awesome vacation.

Embrace The Chaos

It is going to be chaotic traveling to Disneyworld with children, even if they are slightly older. The traveling, the walking around, the excitement, and the fun will eventually boil over and lead to a bubbling pot that is hard to contain. You may find during your vacation that there will be times when you need to stop, take a step back, and just be in the moment. Not pushing your children too hard is important. If you try and do too much in one day, it will backfire on you, and it will affect the enjoyment your children get from Disney. Your vacation will quickly come around, and it will be over before you know it. Days and nights will be pure chaos, but this will all be part of the fun. Trying to find a balance when you are vacationing in Orlando will be difficult, so the best thing to do is not even try!.

Prepare For Tiredness and Overtiredness

In the run-up to your vacation and during your vacation, you will be tired, and your children will often be overtired. This is all part of the magic of Disney and part of the fun of planning a vacation. To deal and cope with tiredness and overtiredness, you may need to find a way to release feelings and emotions. This may mean breaking up back-to-back day trips to theme parks with a trip to a beach or even a day by the pool in your resort. Trying to plan everything too meticulously can backfire, so try and go with the flow, plan loosely, but do not get frustrated if plans do not always go the way you thought that they would.
