A History Lesson On The Most Iconic California Eateries

Made In California The California Born Burger Joints, Diners, Fast Food & Restaurants That Changed America by George Geary was a very interesting read. Featuring some of California’s most iconic, eateries from as early as 1915 Saratoga Chips (Van de Kamp’s Dutch Bakeries to 1966 Peer’s Coffee, Tea and Spices.

This is like a foodies guide to the most popular eateries that must be experienced in a lifetime. Makes me want to run out and buy a Winnebago to set out on an experience of a lifetime.

Each stop has photos, the original location, date opened along with a history lesson of the establishment and their five most popular products!  Some even have their slogans, owners (past and present) and how many locations there are or were.

I loved the section on The Brown Derby which saw famous patrons like Joan Crawford, Charlie Chaplin, Rita Hayward and more. This was were legendary Clark Gable proposed to Carol Lombard and one of the locations was also featured in I Love Lucy.

If anyone is looking for a bucket list to end all bucket lists, grab a copy and visit as many of these famous locations as possible!
