How to make your dog feel at home in your home

If you have a dog, you’ll know they are just as much a part of the family as anybody else. That’s why it’s important that they feel just as home in your home as everyone else. Here are some ways to make sure your dog feels comfortable in your house.

Start with the outside first

While you’ll want to spend most of your time indoors, your dog will want to spend the majority of their time outdoors. Dogs love nothing more than having a large space to run around in, and your back yard is the ideal space to allow them to play in. Make sure you have a surface that won’t hurt them. For example, in extreme heat, concrete can get hot and burn their paws.

If you don’t have a soft surface for them to jump around on, consider installing an artificial lawn for them. Arranging for experts to carry out pet turf installation is quick and surprisingly affordable. Employ experts and your back yard could be transformed within just a few hours. Choose a product that has been designed to be pet friendly. For example, the manufacturer US Turf is the only company to work with the Helen Woodward Animal Center of San Diego to make sure they design the best product for dogs. Not only is it safe, it requires very little maintenance and can transform a dull area into a beautifully aesthetic space.

As well as a lawn, make sure they have somewhere they can get some shade when it gets too hot. This could be anything from a big tree to a pergola.

Give them a space of their own

In your home it might seem that wherever you go, your dog will follow. If you’re watching TV on the sofa, it’s likely your pet will want to come and sit next to you. If you let them, they’d probably jump in the bed or even your bath with you. While they might enjoy roaming around the whole house, it’sstill important that they have a space to call their own. Make sure they have a designated corner of the house that is purely for them. Buy them a comfy bed that they can go to when they’re tired, or stressed, or just want a place to chill out during a busy day. Make sure they have access to a constant supply of water in the exact same place every day.

Make sure you’re there regularly

No matter what amount of toys, beds or treats you buy them, your pet will only feel truly at home when you’re there. If you’ve got a dog, you’ll know the level of excitement that greets you when you arrive home from a long day at work or even a quick 5-minute journey to the store and back. Dogs can get very stressed out if you leave them for a long amount of time, so make sure you’re there regularly to keep them company. If you do have to leave them, try leaving on the radio so they can hear voices while you’re away.
