59 And Thriving. Staying Strong And Feeling Good

Trying to find my routine for exercise, stretching, and feeling good as I enter the last quarter of my life. As someone who has had back aches since the age of 13 due to a swimming accident and being 4'11" and carrying my babies for way too long, sitting for hours at desk jobs, standing and getting on the floor as well as lifting big kids to change their diapers at my preschool/daycare job dealing with aches has often times sidelined me.

I have dealt with a back/hip pain that took 7 years of my life. The pain was unbearable and no amount of therapy, chiropractor care was helping. I had a shooting sciatica pain that made me want to cry. I thought this was going to be my life until I finally found a doctor who told me I didn't have sciatica, I had a severe muscle tear that I kept reinjuring every time I did the "sciatica stretches" all my therapists were teaching me. Over the year in his care I took his advice. He gave me ultrasound therapy, I stopped all stretching activities that kept me flexible, took a supplement he handed me one day, iced all pain, got shoe inserts that cost me too much money, ordered a reclining couch and low and behold I am where I am now. Managing my hip, back and leg pains.

While I don't go to him anymore (insurance), I am doing all the things he taught me as well as Provitalize which I swear by (not sponsored). My body feels the difference if I miss a day!!

I also have downloaded an app that helps me try to stay on my 10,000 steps a day plan and found low impact (hello bad hips and back) You Tuber exercise that I happen to love.

Just trying to keep moving as I get older without setting myself backward.

What are your suggestions for life over 59?

Who Controls The Remote Control In Your House?

In my house, my husband has always been in control of the remote. I don't know if he took control or if we inadvertently gave it to him because the kids and I were home all day and when he finally got home from work and was ready to unwind, we just handed it off but for the past 22 years he has control over what we watch 80% of the time.

There are many TVs in the house and I could go watch what I want alone or I can sit with him and hope that he falls upon something I might be into also. Smartphones have made hanging with him easier because if he puts on something I don't want to watch or just not into, I can read a book or play a game but at least we are in the same room.

Last night he handed the remote to me and said, "since you are on vacation, why don't you choose something." I laughed, took the remote and said something along the lines of "It's a lot of pressure to find something you will be into as well". Teaching by example, wink wink. Maybe it will hit home or maybe not. He replied "well it's fine because I will be on my computer." Which is honestly what he is doing every night anyway. He usually puts something on then half watches it or uses it as background noise anyway.

I immediately put on LaPalma a Swedish series streaming on Netflix which is something I have been hearing about. He asked what I put on when it started and said, "I've heard a lot about this movie." It was okay. Not sure why it is so popular but it was enough to have us both watching so that's a win!

How about you? Who is in control of the remote?

Feeling Old In Wildwood New Jersey! Man I Miss My Youth

The photo above was edited to bring out the colors and the one below was raw. It was a drive by photo on the morning we left Wildwood so not the best quality but at least it wasn't raining like the two days were stayed.

Last week we headed to Wildwood with a stop over in Cape May to take the ferry to see my sister-in-law in Delaware. It may have been the worst week due to Hurricane Erin but things can always be worse right?! We had a good time despite the rain and cold but what I noticed most was that Wildwood use to be so much fun when I was younger.

Was it the weather?

Was it my age? I mean I went in my 20s and I am now in my 50s. It just didn't have the same feel.

My husband and I haven't been in 30 years and he is already thinking about a trip there next year but I am thinking been there, done that.

We found really nice places to eat and every night had to take hot showers because we were cold from the rain but it felt really different.

My friends and I used to love Wildwood. We had such a good time even if it was just to walk around for the day or a weekend. There was always something to do. There were people to meet. Stores to hang out in. Bands to watch. Rides to go on. Has it changed or am I misremembering?

My Cats And The Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa Scratching Post

This month we got a new scratching post for the three fur balls in my house.  It cracks me up to see them sitting in on Mona's lap.

They love it and take turns sitting in her arms even kicking the other out sometimes. DO I really need three?

My Goddess Has Her Driving License

Goddess is now 20 and has a driving license. WOW time flies. When I started this blog Goddess and Handsome were babies. They are now 20 and 22, in college and very much my favorite people. I adore them and I am so proud of them.

Goddess took about a year to finally take her driving test. She wasn't ready and we weren't pushing knowing we would get there when we got there. I kept telling her "as long as it takes, is as long as it takes" and I bet she hates that saying.

When Goddess does anything she really throws herself into it 100%.  Allowing a child to drive you may be easy for some but for me it is hard. It isn't just that I see her as my baby. I am the worst passenger because I like to be in control of my life and prefer to drive. I was always the designated driver when I went out with my friends or a guy because I could trust myself. Sooo when she would constantly see me applying my imaginary break she thought she was doing something wrong and when we finally got home would ask "on a scale of 1-10 how scare were you doing that drive?" I often reminded her that I did that whenever I wasn't the driver and it was not her.

Yesterday Teach cleaned out the car for her, detailing every part of it. He came over to me when he was done and asked if I was ready to go to Goddess so we could GIVE HER THE CAR.

I love and appreciated how he needed me to be there when he finally handed her the key. He had a whole speech for her about making the car her own and that by January/February he expects she would be paying for her own insurance after getting a job. He told her the story of how his dad had done it for him and I just know he was feeling all the feels of his own independence as a young man.

Goddess is NOT ready to drive alone. She knows the car is hers and she can take it whenever she wants but is nervous. I told her she just needs to take that first maiden voyage and she will be fine.

I pray for her safety as she deals with the millions of obvious bad drivers on the road. I see it every day. People seem to not know the rules of the road.

Heavenly Father I place my child in your hands and ask for care and protection as she travels. Surround her with angels and guard her from danger bringing her to safety to her destinations. Grant her wisdom to stay alert and make safe decisions and guide her path with grace. AMEN

God is Good, All The Time,

All The Time, God Is Good!

The Last Year of My 50s - My Birthday Month Has Been Busy and I Am So Grateful For Everything I Have

I thought turning 59 would be scary and make me really sad. Shockingly it wasn't and it didn't. Next year is the big 60 and I find myself between being excited that I am still here because my mom didn't make 34 year and I have always thought I would die young, and feeling sad about leaving my kids one day.  But are we ever really ready to go?  Don't most of us wish we had another 59, 60, 70, 80, 90 years?

For my birthday I bought myself a shirt that read Last Year In My 50s to wear on my Birthday. I wanted to feel special for the day because well in case no one else was going to tell me damn it, I am special. We all are.

My Birthday was nice! The gifts were all so thoughtful. My daughter got me a crucifix for my car, a pill box for all my vitamins and a phone charger for my car, my son got me a pillow for "hot" sleepers.  Anyone else always too hot to sleep? My husband got me two different journals, and "beachy" stickers and scrapbook paper because we were heading down to Wildwood, New Jersey.

she made the box and the card too! SOOO Thoughtful

Then the day before my birthday I got a surprise gift from a dear friend. She knocked it out of the park with this gift.  Socks that say Fuck Off, I'm Reading, coasters that look like old library due date envelopes, and a tote bag which I have been using every day.

We also headed to Wildwood for a few days after telling my husband I longed to smell the salt air and the ocean.

After working through most of the summer it is nice to have three days off before meetings and back to work. I am blessed and so grateful for my life. I thank God every day for everything I have and if I am having a bad day I know that it will be better and can easily get through any moments that leave me feeling sad, lonely or empty because I know that God is always with me and I am truly never alone on this path we call life.

God is Good, All The Time, All The Time, God Is Good

The Texas Roadhouse Was Amazing

My husband is a guy who likes what he knows. He’s not one who wants to try new things. If it was up to me, we would go somewhere new every time we go out. He likes to try and true so we usually end up at our favorite Mexican restaurant or Outback, basically somewhere basic he’s a basic kind of guy.

He’s not into special foods that are paired together for the pallet and create a magical tasting experience, he likes his diner size portions. The more food the better. He wants to be stuffed and rolling out of there if we have gone out to eat.

We were out and about and I put in Google maps restaurants with a destination of about 10 miles away. A few things came up and I knew that my daughter wouldn’t find anything to eat there. Knowing my husband is very particular I spotted Texas Roadhouse! We had never been there, and when we walked in, we were very excited.

It was a cool place first of all with a moose head on the wall deer heads lots of people. It was packed for 3 o’clock in the afternoon. That’s always a good sign. The first thing they asked was do you wanna pick out your steak? I’ve never been asked that before  so I walked over to the butcher display and peeked! The steaks all looked good to me. I would take any of them so I told them no.

We ordered three appetizers! My son and I got steak and rib combo. My husband got some sort of chicken dish and my daughter got boneless buffalo wings the only wings that she will eat.

All of our meals came with two sides, except for the boneless wings, which was an appetizer and it was all delicious. Not a place that’s close to us. It’s about a 50 minute drive but my husband kept saying I hope it doesn’t get any better because we’ll never come back here. Odd thing to say and the kids asked why he would say such a thing but  I know exactly why he said it.  You can only go down once you’ve reached the top. The Texas roadhouse was definitely for my family, a 9/10.  I loved it. It was a little expensive but we did get a lot of food and I’m gonna talk him into going back. My birthday is in August and this is my pick for dinner.

Have you ever gone to a Texas Roadhouse Restaurant? Even the complimentary rolls and cinnamon butter was amazing.

Things I Am Too Old To Care About! Don’t Wait Too Long To Change

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed there are many things that I am unwilling to care about. For instance; I’m unwilling to care about what anybody thinks about me. I don’t need you to like me. I don’t care if you like me I don’t worry about how I look, or how I present to the world. It’s actually  a good place to be after so many exhausting years of worrying about everything. Do I look pretty? Did I say something stupid? Is my skin Ok? My teeth? Am I too fat?  Etc etc etc.

What I do care about is if I like myself. Liking yourself is probably one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

I also don’t care if I’m understood. I don’t care if you don’t like my clothes, hair, makeup, blah blah blah. The list goes on and on.

The things I do care about though like  am I doing right by myself? Do I want to do this or that? If the answer is no, I will not do it. I don’t have any problems saying no anymore. I used to be something that was very hard for me.

I wish I didn’t take so long to get to this place in my life. I find peace and knowing that I finally made it there and putting I do sometimes Who cared about everything and worried about everyone, but honestly that was exhausting! It made me angry, unhappy and powerless!  If you are like I was, you can stop it. You have the power! If you wanna change, change! If you wanna say no! Say no! If you don’t give an F then don’t do it. Don’t  sell yourself!  Don’t put yourself and your needs or feelings last. Make sure you are putting yourself on the top of the list of important things in your life.

You are worth it!

Life Recap June 2025

Oh my God there is just so much going on. I am now waiting for my daughter to finish her 4th driving class after dropping my son off at his job. I do a lot of sitting in my car, which means I do a lot of reading, playing phone games, listening to podcasts and thinking. Right now I’m thinking about my blog which has been something that I get to once in a while and not as often as I like.

I’m not even sure that blogs are something that people read anymore and it doesn’t matter because really, I started this for me in the beginning. I would love it if people read it and if they get something out of it, but from the beginning I just was trying to create a story, a timeline that my kids can,  if they choose to look at or read, get to know me after I’m gone.

This is all from losing my mom when I was only 12 and how I longed to really know her, to know who she was, to see what she thought about, what kind of woman she was. I just really NEEDED to know her.  Since that could never happen, I decided my kids would never wonder who I was and started blogging.

As I wait for my daughter to finish her driving test, I am amazed at how fast time has gone. I still see her as a three-year-old,  as a seven-year-old, as a 10-year-old,  as a 15-year-old and now she’s 20 and man time has flown.

Spending time with my kids is truly my favorite thing to do. Driving my son to his job means I get to talk to him in the car. My daughter sometimes comes sometimes doesn’t depends on what we’re doing but just the fact that she wants to hang out with me still at 20 even if it’s just to drive him to work really makes my heart so happy.

June has flown by. It’s already June 22. I don’t feel like I’ve done anything exciting this year. I’ve just been working.  Two jobs please pet sitting. I work at a Bus Garage as a one on one bus monitor and I’m still at a preschool that I worked out for 11 years part-time so I spent a lot of time working. I also spend a lot of time driving my kids around.  My son to and from work. I live  1/2 hour away  and then there’s the waiting for him to get relieved. My daughter, I drive to her driving class or we just head out on the weekend because I know that she just needs to get out of the house so we just drive.  Sometimes it’s to a store, sometimes there’s no destination. I still feel like we have to be more mindful and find things to do to  create memories instead of just part of our mundane already boring lives. She’s getting older and I wanna create memories that hold her long after I’m gone.

My husband’s been busy with the garden, which looks beautiful, but I wish he was someone who would prefer to do things not just at home but outside the house. He could go for a walk with us, to the movies or just come out with us when we leave the house. He is someone who is very sad in his way is and very self driven. It’s not a bad thing. It just means we don’t spend as much time with him as we wish we did.

Hopefully in July, I can see some friends that I haven’t seen in way too many years. Life is getting faster and my days are getting shorter. I’ll be 59 in August and I know how fast 59 came and I know I don’t have 59 more years so it’s time to make some mindful changes that hopefully just continue to brighten my life and make me happy.

Heartstrings and Sweet Words: My Daughter's Touching Take On Our Bond

Today my daughter said the nicest thing to me and I need to leave it here forever.

She was talking about a friend who hangs with someone because this friend needs to leave the house once in a while. Her friend doesn't like spending time with this person and complains but will go to their house or take drives with them. I asked why would she torture herself like that if she doesn't like them and she said "She is bored, has bad Wi-Fi and she doesn't have YOU to talk to."

This is probably the sweetest thing she could have said to me.  I mean I try! I believe we have a great friendship and lots in common but never want to overstep what I feel thinking she just deals with me because we are in the same house. It feels so nice to hear. I didn't make much of it in fact didn't say anything about it but my heart swelled.

How To Save Money At The Supermarket Starting This Week

I don't know how we do it. Families are all struggling and it has been going on for so long it has become the norm. I remember when my food bill was $150 a week and I thought that was high. I would do anything to be around $150 these days. It has been over $200-$270 for the past 4 years. We are saving but it takes a lot of work to try to make sure we are getting the best for our buck. Last week my bill was $208 and I was so happy.

Here are 10 practical tips for families to save money at the supermarket without sacrificing quality or nutrition. Hopefully these tips help you stretch your grocery budget further.

  1. Make a List and Stick to It
Before heading to the store, plan your meals for the entire week and write down exactly what you need. Sticking to the list helps avoid impulse buys.
  2. Buy in Bulk (But only if the product is something YOU really use)
Stock up on non-perishable staples like rice, pasta, or canned goods when they’re on sale. These are perfect for busy households. We always get 3-4 extra if our MUST HAVES are on sale because we buy them every week.
  3. Use Coupons and Apps
Take advantage of your supermarkets digital coupons and use cash-back apps like Ibotta to score discounts on items you already buy. It’s a quick way to save because finding coupons is impossible
  4. Compare Unit Prices
Don’t just look at the total price—check the price per ounce or pound (usually listed on the shelf tag). The bigger package isn’t always the better deal, and this trick helps you find the real value for your money.
  5. Shop Seasonal Produce
Buy fruits and veggies that are in season. Produce is expensive these days but if you look at what is in season you will find cheaper, fresher, and often tastier fruits and veggies. Skip pricey out-of-season items unless they’re a must-have for a special recipe or your pickey child. Many of us buy what our kid eats. We want them to eat so if you need to you need to.
  6. Avoid Shopping Hungry
This is something I know for myself is very important. Shopping on an empty stomach can lead to grabbing snacks or convenience foods you don’t need.  Eat a quick snack like apples, bananas or whatever before you go to stay focused and save.
  7. Go for Store Brands
Store-brand products like cereal, milk, or snacks are often just as good as name brands but cost less. Skip the fancy labels and keep the quality while cutting costs. BUT if your family will not eat it this is not a savings. Get what they eat.
  8. Check Expiration Dates
Before tossing items in your cart, glance at the expiration dates. It happens especially on dairy, meat, or discounted goods.
  9. Use Loyalty Programs
Sign up for the supermarket’s rewards card or app. I love my Shoprite App.  It’s free and offers exclusive discounts, points, or even gas perks small savings that add up over time for busy moms.
  10. Shop at Discount Stores
Check out places like Aldi, Lidl, =even farmers’ markets for lower prices on staples and fresh items. Just be mindful not to overbuy things you don’t need, even if the deals are tempting.

With these tips, you’ll keep your grocery bill in check and have more cash left for the things that matter most to your family!

Unplugging for a Richer Life: Simple Joys Without the Screen

I have had this blog for a loooong time. A really long time. It has taken me from my kids being babies to them being in college and I love reading my old posts. It brings up so many lovely memories of my early mommy years.

I don’t spent a lot of time online anymore and make a conscious effort to step away because I can hear my soul whispering, “Hey, lady, let’s step away from the screen and soak up some real life for a change.” So, I’ve been experimenting with ways to enrich my days without relying on tech, and oh my gosh, it’s been a game-changer. Here are some of my favorite little escapes maybe they’ll spark something for you too!

1. Get Lost in a Real, Crinkly-Paged Book or a Book on your Kindle

There’s something magical about holding an actual book you know, the kind that smells faintly of paper and possibility? I’ve been curling up with a mug of green tea and diving into novels I’ve been meaning to read forever. As I’ve gotten older it is much easier to read on my Kindle. I can change the font and read in a dim room so I can hang out with my husband while he watches TV.

There are so many books I want to read.  Pick something that calls to you and let it sweep you away. Right now I am reading Water Under The Bridge by Britney King

2. Dig Into a Hands-On Hobby

I’ve always been the type to admire crafty people, but lately I decided I will start doing some of the Pins I have saved on Pinterest or posts on Instagram. Mostly I started messing around with paper crafts trying to use a lot of the supplies I have been hoarding for years. I had to let go of trying to be as good as the people I follow. They are experts in what they do after learning their craft and I may never get as good as I like but I learn with every spread I do. You just keep going, and somehow it’s relaxing and exciting. Whatever you are into go for it. Try your best, watch videos, knitting, gardening, baking bread or whatever it is, find something that makes you excited and you love.

3. Wander Outside

Okay, I’ll admit I’m guilty of letting my phone lead me everywhere. But the other day, I left it at home and just drove. Then I pulled over and just walked through a small town I had never visited before. No GPS, no playlist, just me and the world. I ended up noticing things I’d never seen before like tiny wildflowers sprouting up, beautiful homes, lots of deer, and the way the trees sound when the wind rustles through them. It’s freeing to roam without a destination or a screen telling you where to turn. Try it, even if it’s just around your block. Let your feet and your curiosity guide you.

4. Write It Out

Journaling’s been my go to for years. I have many journals but 4 years ago I really started to try to create some of the journals I follow. I grab cute little notebooks, journals, scrapbooks, or pieces of paper and I write it down. I scribble, tape many scraps of notes into my journals about my dreams, random thoughts, even silly doodles. There is just something about the scratch of a pen that feels so personal. I love pouring a little piece of myself onto the page knowing I can reread them whenever I want. Give it a whirl; you might surprise yourself with what comes up.

5. Cook Something

I’m no chef, but there’s this quiet joy in chopping veggies, stirring a pot, and letting a recipe unfold. Last weekend, I made baked Mac and Cheese, Meatballs and sauce, chicken tenders, chicken cutlets and a bunch of roasted veggies so that the upcoming week wouldn't be a hassle as I worked my 3 jobs. I can come home from work and heat something up, my husband can take what he wants and my son has lunch and dinner for a few days. I love knowing I am feeding them and it was all made with love.  It's nothing fancy, just fresh ingredients and a little patience. The smell filled my kitchen, and I felt so accomplished.

Taking Care of Myself: A Journey of Self-Care and Daily Prayer

In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, taking care of ourselves can sometimes fall by the wayside. Life presents us with countless challenges and responsibilities that can easily consume our time, energy, and spirit. In this whirlwind, I’ve come to realize the importance of carving out space for self-care and, more importantly, turning to prayer daily. This journey is one of love, honesty, and renewal, and of reconnecting with the essence of who I am.

The Importance of Self-Care

Self-care isn’t just a buzzword; it’s essential for our well-being. Too often, we believe taking care of ourselves as selfishness, as if pausing to nurture our spirits negates our responsibilities. However, I’ve learned that self-care is vital. It's about acknowledging the unique needs of our hearts and minds and giving ourselves permission to meet them.

When I started making self-care a priority, I began to notice profound changes in my life. Simple acts like taking long walks in nature, reading a good book, or enjoying a warm cup of tea allowed me to reconnect with my inner self. I discovered that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. A way to rejuvenate my spirit and recharge my mind.

The Power of Prayer

Alongside self-care, incorporating daily prayer has transformed my journey. Prayer is my anchor, my safe haven, a moment where I can pause and reflect on my life. In those quiet moments of prayer, I find peace and clarity. It often brings me to tears. It is a time for me to express gratitude for the blessings in my life and to seek guidance through the challenges I face.

Each day, I set aside a few moments, whether in the morning before my busy day but especially at the end of the day when I am finally laying in bed and the time is mine and God's! . The act of praying helps me to center my thoughts, reminding me of my purpose and the importance of nurturing my soul. Prayer has become the conversation I look most forward to. It nourishes me and renews my spirit.

The Intersection of Self-Care and Prayer

What I have come to love about self-care and prayer is how beautifully they compliment each other. When I engage in self-care, I create a physical and emotional space that invites prayer into my life and when I pray, I strengthen my commitment to God.

I find that dedicating time to self-care allows me to approach prayer with an open heart. When I feel grounded and balanced, my prayers are more intentional and heartfelt. I find strength, wisdom, and the courage to face my challenges. Prayer becomes my companion, guiding me.

A Call to Action

If you’re finding it difficult to prioritize yourself amidst life’s demands, I urge you to take that first step. Start small set aside even just a few minutes each day for self-care and prayer. Give yourself permission to be still, to breathe, and to listen. We as woman mostly feel such guilt when we take a moment for ourself. I have had so much trouble with allowing myself to just be in the moment without feeling as if I should be doing something for someone else or some chore that needs to be finalized. Create a ritual that feels comforting and nurturing, whether it's lighting a candle, journaling your thoughts, or simply sitting in quiet reflection.

Know that taking care of yourself is not a selfish act but a profound way to honor the gift of life. As we love and nurture ourselves, we become better equipped to spread love and kindness to those around us.

Here’s to embracing the journey of self-care and daily prayer with an open heart. May we find moments of peace and solace amidst our busy lives, allowing ourselves the grace to just be. Together, let’s commit to nurturing our spirits, for when we take care of ourselves, we fill our cups and, in turn, empower ourselves to uplift others in our beautiful, interconnected journey of life.

Welcome March: Renewal and Adventure

Found on Facebook. Photo by Brooklyn

As we step into the first few days of March, there's a palpable shift in the air. The winter chill begins to wane, daffodils and tulips will bravely push through the soil, and the world around us starts to buzz with the promise of renewal. March is not just a bridge to spring; it’s an invitation to shake off those winter cobwebs and embrace new our beginnings. Here are some ideas to help you welcome this vibrant month with open arms.

1. Rediscover Nature

With the earth slowly waking from its winter slumber, March is the perfect time to reconnect with nature. Take a stroll in your local park, explore a nearby trail, or simply sit outdoors with a good book. Notice the subtle changes happening around you—the budding trees, the returning birds, and the warmer sun. Embracing nature can lift your spirits and inspire creativity as you soak in the fresh air and beauty of the world.

2. Start a Spring Cleaning Ritual

March marks the perfect moment to clear out the clutter that may have built up during the colder months. Use this time to spring-clean your home and your mind. Organize a closet, declutter your workspace, or tidy up your digital files. As you create a more organized environment, you may find a sense of clarity that helps you enter the new season with a refreshed perspective.

3. Set New Intentions

With fresh beginnings come new opportunities. March is the ideal time to take stock of your goals and intentions. Did you make New Year's Resolutions this year. I don't do that but I make mental notes about what I would like to do every year. This month is a great time to revisit what you want to achieve, whether it’s personal growth, health, or learning a new skill. Write down your intentions and make a plan to take actionable steps towards them. Visualizing where you want to be can provide the motivation needed to stay on course.

4. Celebrate International Women’s Day

March 8th brings International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women and advocating for gender equality. Take the time to honor the women in your life mothers, sisters, friends, and teachers who have played a pivotal role in your story. Consider supporting women-owned businesses or participating in local events that promote women’s empowerment and most importantly if you are a woman, support yourself!

5. Get Involved in Community Events

March is often filled with various events celebrating culture, art, and community. I cannot wait to see more things to do near me. It’s a great opportunity to get involved, whether it’s attending a local festival, joining a community clean-up, or volunteering at a charity. Engaging with your community not only helps others but also fosters a sense of belonging and connection.

6. Plant the Seeds for Your Garden

While March can still be unpredictable weather-wise, it's also a time to start thinking about gardens. With the cost of vegetables, my daughter and I talk about it all the time. Whether you have a backyard garden or just a few pots on your balcony, now is the time to start planning. Consider what you want to plant this year and get your seeds ready. Watching things grow and nurturing life brings both joy and fulfillment.

7. Create a Seasonal Bucket List

With the sights and sounds of spring around the corner, why not create a seasonal bucket list? Write down activities you want to try during March and beyond—whether it’s hiking a new trail, attending a concert, or trying out new recipes with seasonal ingredients. Having a list keeps you motivated and excited about the little adventures that lie ahead.

Embrace the Power of Change

The first days of March are a gentle reminder that change is not only possible but invigorating. It’s a time to embrace the transition from the cold of winter to the warmth of spring. By taking intentional steps to engage with nature, declutter, foster community, and celebrate the world around us, we can fully embrace all that March has to offer. So, take a deep breath, let go of the winter blues, and step boldly into this beautiful new month! I can't wait to say goodbye to winter this year!

Understanding Gluteal Tendinopathy: The Importance of Stretching and Rehabilitation

I have suffered from Gluteal tendinopathy for over 10 years. There have been days were I have cried from the pain and I figured this was it for me. This would be my life. However, I have found things that work and want to share with you what works for me.

Gluteal Tendinopathy is often characterized by pain and discomfort in the lateral hip region. Often it is misdiagnosed as Sciatica which is what I was treated for the past 7 years. This ailment arises when the tendons that attach the gluteal muscles to the hip become irritated or degenerated due to overuse, injury, or improper biomechanics. While treatment typically involves rest, modifications of activity, and strengthening exercises, incorporating stretching into your rehabilitation regimen is crucial for effective recovery and injury prevention.

What is Gluteal Tendinopathy?

Gluteal tendinopathy primarily affects the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus muscles, pain radiates for the leg or is focused in the hips or lower back often excruciating. It felt like I was being zapped. The pain level was like a 15 and it would be days of it!

Symptoms may include:

  • Pain on the outer side of the hip
  • Discomfort when lying on the affected side
  • Pain during activities such as climbing stairs or standing up from a seated position

The condition is often exacerbated by certain movements, repetitive activities, and poor hip mechanics.

The Role of Stretching

Stretching is a vital component of managing gluteal tendinopathy. It helps maintain flexibility in the surrounding muscles, reduces tension, and can support overall hip function. Here’s how stretching contributes to recovery:

  1. Increases Flexibility: Tight muscles can pull on tendons, exacerbating pain and instability. Stretching the gluteal region, hips, and surrounding muscle groups promotes flexibility and may help alleviate tension on the tendons.

  2. Improves Blood Flow: Stretching increases blood circulation to the muscles and tendons, aiding in healing and reducing inflammation.

  3. Enhances Range of Motion: A well-stretched muscle can move through a fuller range of motion, which is crucial for both daily activities and athletic performance.

  4. Prevents Future Injuries: Incorporating regular stretching into your routine can help maintain optimal muscle length and balance, reducing the risk of re-injury to the symptomatic area.

Effective Stretches for Gluteal Tendinopathy

When managing gluteal tendinopathy, focusing on gentle stretching exercises is key. Here are a few that can aid in recovery:

  1. Standing Figure Four Stretch:

    • Stand tall and cross your right ankle over your left knee.
    • Slowly bend your left knee and sit back as if sitting in a chair.
    • Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch sides.
  2. Seated Forward Fold:

    • Sit on the floor with legs extended in front of you.
    • Reach towards your toes, keeping your back straight, until you feel a gentle stretch in the hamstrings and glutes.
    • Hold for 20-30 seconds.
  3. Lying Piriformis Stretch:

    • Lie on your back and cross your right ankle over your left knee.
    • Gently pull your left thigh towards your chest until you feel a stretch in the right glute.
    • Hold for 20-30 seconds before switching legs.
  4. Hip Flexor Stretch:

    • Kneel on one knee with the other foot in front, making a 90-degree angle.
    • Shift your weight forward while keeping your back straight to stretch the hip flexors.
    • Hold for 20-30 seconds and switch sides.
  5. I also take Vitamins and Minerals and use fflexible ice packs all the time.

I take Osteo Gest from Doctor's Pride Magnesium with Bisglycinate and Curcumin Turmeric Supplements - None of these are sponsored but they work for me.

While gluteal tendinopathy can be a painful and frustrating condition, understanding its underlying causes and incorporating targeted stretching into your rehabilitation plan can significantly enhance recovery. Always consult with a healthcare professional or physical therapist to create an individualized plan that addresses your specific needs and ensures proper technique.

Embrace the power of stretching, and take steps toward a pain-free, active lifestyle!

Title: Embracing the Journey: Learning to Finally Read the Bible

As a mother in her late 50s, I find myself at a fascinating crossroads in life. With my children grown or nearly there, I have more time to reflect on my own personal goals and desires. One of those long-held dreams has always been to read the Bible. It’s a book I’ve been curious about for years. The bible is filled with stories, lessons, and wisdom that I am trying to gather for myself. However, I often felt overwhelmed, unsure of where to start. I read novels so I thought that I would start on page 1 and go. I mean how hard can it be? I have started and stopped over the past 25 years but now, I finally feel ready to embark on this journey, and I want to share my experience with others who may be in a similar situation.

A Gentle Push from Life Experience

Getting closer to entering my 60s has brought with it a unique blend of clarity and contemplation. As I've navigated various seasons of motherhood—intense sleepless nights with toddlers, the struggles of raising teenagers, and the adjustments to adult children venturing into the world—I've sought guidance and comfort from many places. Yet, the Bible always seemed like a profound well of wisdom I had yet to tap.

It was a gentle nudge from my sister, who moved to Florida and started her own journey of reading the Bible and joining a church that inspired me to take the plunge.

Setting Realistic Goals

  • Decide what you want to achieve by reading the Bible. Whether it’s daily inspiration, theological understanding, or personal growth, having specific goals can guide your reading.

To make this dream a reality, I needed to create a plan that felt doable and enjoyable, one that fit into my busy life as a mom and a someone with a job. Thus, I set realistic goals. Instead of trying to read the Bible cover to cover—which felt overwhelming—I decided to focus on one chapter a day, starting with the New Testament. The Gospels would allow me to dive into the life of Jesus, sharing his teachings and stories that have impacted countless lives.

Finding the Right Resources

  • Select a Bible translation that is accessible and resonates with you. Popular options include the New International Version (NIV), English Standard Version (ESV), New Living Translation (NLT), or The Message (MSG) for more contemporary language.

Being a visual learner, I sought out resources to help guide me. I also downloaded an app that read to me as I followed along where I could highlight passages and break down each book. I also re-read the next day each passage focusing on the message.

There are so many Bible apps that are particularly helpful. They each offer a range of reading plans and daily reminders, making it easier to stay accountable and connected. Best of all, I discovered the option to read in different translations, which has opened up new understandings of familiar verses.

Creating a Sacred Space and Time

  • Develop a structured plan to help you work through the text. You might:
    • Read a specific number of chapters or verses each day.
    • Follow a chronological reading plan that arranges the text in the order events occurred.
    • Focus on specific books (e.g., the Gospel of John, Psalms, etc.) or themes (love, faith, justice).

Another key element I adopted was creating my own sacred space for this journey. I set a time every day to open the app and my bible. If I don't do it during my break at work and I am home I light a candle and sip my favorite tea as I settle into reading. Having this dedicated time often in the early mornings or the end of the night when the house is quiet helps me focus, reflect, and truly engage with the words.

Embracing Reflection and Community

  • If you’re new to the Bible, consider starting with the New Testament, especially with the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) or the book of Psalms for poetry and prayers.

Reading the Bible isn’t just about the words on the page; it’s about reflection and application in my life. As I read, I take notes in my journal. I write down questions, insights, and even prayers that arise from my reading. This practice deepens my understanding and allows me to establish a personal connection with the text.

I hope to reach out to a local Bible study group, with like minded woman who I hope to read with and dive deeper into the message for a more enriching experience. Sharing thoughts and discussing interpretations with others can provide a whole new perspective and inspire you to really embrace and understand the message.

Growing and Evolving

As I embark on this journey, I realize that learning to read the Bible isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress and growth. Some days, I’m filled with inspiration, while others may leave me with more questions than answers. However, that’s part of the beauty of the process. It’s a continual journey of discovery, allowing me to learn more about myself, my faith, and my connection to the world around me.

Conclusion: A Lifelong Adventure

For anyone, especially those like me in their 50s, who may have longed to read the Bible but haven’t taken the leap, I encourage you to embrace the journey. It’s never too late to begin, and you don’t have to do it alone. Take small, manageable steps; set a schedule, find resources that resonate with you, create a sacred space, and open yourself up to a community of fellow learners.

As I navigate this new chapter, I’m excited to uncover the timeless wisdom within the pages of the Bible. It’s a journey that promises to be as rewarding as it is enlightening, a lifelong conversation filled with love, grace, and understanding.

  • Before and after reading, take a moment to pray. Seek clarity and guidance as you engage with the text, asking for insights that apply to your life.

So, grab your Bible, a cozy blanket, and a cup of tea. Let’s embark on this journey together, one book at a time!
