Just Finished Barbie - It Was So Much Fun And Everything I Hoped

Barbie

The highest grossing film of the year, as well as in Warner Bros. history from writer/director Greta Gerwig will be available this holiday season.

Synopsis:

To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.

The Review:

  • Greta’s take on Barbie was so much fun. I couldn’t have imagined a better world. It was colorful, girly and everything my inner child would have wanted if she had all the Barbie things when she was a child. We got mostly off brand things but I longed for the car, plane, pooping dog, and all the fantastic Barbies and Kens. I did however have Growing Up Skipper and was so excited to see her in the movie.

Now that I have seen it I could not imagine a more perfect Barbie than Margot. She and Ryan were amazing and I loved all the familiar faces. America Ferrera, Will Farrel, John Cena, Rhea Perlman and so many more. It was amazing.

If you loved Barbie growing up watch this movie that was fun but had a feminist message that my 18 year old daughter seemed to enjoy. We don’t need Kens to be successful, to run the world and we both loved Gloria’s (America Ferrera monologue about what woman are expected to be and do and all without complaining.

It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like, we always have to be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong.

We have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin — you have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass. You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas.

You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman, but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining.

You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood. But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged, so find a way to acknowledge that — but also always be grateful.

You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.

I'm just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing a woman, then I don't even know."

There was so much eye candy. The set design, the outfits, the hair, makeup, OMG the jewelry, dance scenes. The details were incredible. I cannot wait to watch again and see what I missed.

  • CastMargot Robbie , Ryan Gosling , America Ferrera , Will Ferrell
  • Director: Greta Gerwig
  • Studio: Warner Bros.
  • Genre: Comedy
  • Run time: 114 minutes

We Are Not Alone Available On MOST Platforms

The 411:

Can we manifest UFO sightings?

Why are more and more people all of a sudden reporting more and more UFOs?

Why is the government suddenly admitting to all these sightings?

I watched We Are Not Alone last night and enjoyed all the leading UFOlogists and Contactees (are these actual words? Yes they are) being interviewed and Serena has a way of feeling like she is us. Real, honest and open to learning.  I enjoy her way of interviewing and her documentary style. Learning about how to manifest sightings by meditating and opening yourself up to it was enlightening. Now I have another reason to try to meditate.

The computer animated dramatization of the stories was interesting, I have never seen that done before but it wasn’t bad animation so I stuck with it.

Definitely worth it if you are interested in what others are seeing and saying as well as how to learn to see them yourself.

I can’t wait to try.

Beyond The Grave ON VOD SEPTEMBER 5 #beyondthegrave

TRAILER

Have you ever wondered what happens when we die?

Do you wish you knew if the loved ones who have passed are still with you? Proud of you?

Are there people who can talk to the dead?

If you have these questions and more you need to watch Beyond The Grave, a documentary I just watched and will be thinking about all night. Serena DC spoke with those who have had near death experiences, Scientists, Doctors, and even Andrea Parron who lived through the experiences of The Conjuring. It was very thought provoking! I was captivated and interested from the start.

A professional documentary on a topic that many of us are interested in but have seen too many hokey, fake ghost hunting type shows to believe anymore.  Like Andrea says, “Our perception of death is wrong!”

❤❤❤❤❤

Los Angeles, CA – August 9, 2023  – Beyond the Grave, filmmaker Serena DC’s insightful documentary on what happens after we die, has been acquired by Uncork’d Entertainment for a digital release this fall.

Death is the only certainty we have in life, and yet we know so little about it. The pic will explore the different aspects of the afterlife including near death experiences, channeling the dead and the attempt to extend one's lifespan thru cryonics.

After living through a global pandemic, in 2022 death has been placed at the forefront of our lives however what actually happens to us when we die is still shrouded in mystery. There are some cultures who believe that death is truly the end however there is a growing community of people around the world who claim to have had near death experiences. These people, in the 10's of millions believe that they have travelled beyond the grave & have proof of the afterlife & that consciousness lives on after our bodies die. If this is true then can the terminally ill freeze their bodies at the time of death, to be brought back to life & healed in the future? There are others who possess a 6th sense & claim to have conversations with the dead or have experienced paranormal phenomena involving visitations by ghosts. Does this mean that humans can communicate with the spirits of people who have died and if so, can these spirits come back to haunt us?

Serena DC meets with the world's leading scientists, doctors, experts, mediums & paranormal investigators to discover if there really is life Beyond The Grave.

“Appealing to both a true crime and conspiracy theory audience, as well as those genuinely interested in what happens after we depart, is one immersive, captivating documentary”, said Keith Leopard, President Uncork’d Entertainment. “Fans of Gates of Heaven and Afterlife will find this beautiful new companion piece on digital in September.”

Serena DC is the internationally recognized TV Star, Screenwriter, and Executive Producer who created the feature film "Contact - The CE-5 Experience" starring Dr. Steven Greer, the Emmy nominated documentary "My Transparent Life" & Emmy nominated series "Hollywood Disclosure" which has just finished airing on Hulu across the USA & the reality series “Dream Life" which is currently airing on worldwide on Pluto TV.

Serena DC, Miko Allyn, and Lance Mungia produced the film.

Beyond the Grave will release on Digital September 5, 2023.

Danger Is Rising - The Flood - A Review

This morning I watched The Flood staring Casper Van Dien From Starship Troopers.

Casper (Mad Heidi) plays one of 5 convicts being transported but have to stop due to a dangerous storm. They end up in a jail run by a woman. Some of Casper’s “old friends” are planning a jailbreak which he knows nothing about. That’s not the movie…what is the movie?  Well that would be the huge crocodiles who have entered the storm drains and are waiting inside the jail as the waters rise making these huge dinosaurs hard to see.

I love horror movies. Was it scary? No! It was fun though. I found myself rooting for the alligators when it came to some of these convicts.

What I loved:

The camera angles. The sounds of the beasts as they came up on our characters. The opening credits. Yeah….boys! Good job! I loved the way they introduced our convicts!  A pretty kick ass lead female I also loved the death rolls! It was everything I enjoy in my movies.

Calling All Horror Fans - Aged Released Tomorrow June 15th - REVIEW 5* A MUST SEE

Highly anticipated horror-thriller AGED, written and directed by Anubys Lopez (THOSE WHO CALL), will be released June 15 on digital platforms.

After taking a temporary job as a caregiver, a young woman realizes her employer and the house have a dangerous, dark past.

Morgan Boss-Maltais, Carla Kidd, Dave McClain, Bria D'Aguanno, Adonis Ringo, Kelly Kidd, Lisa Alavi, and Kristin Henderson star.

On VOD (Amazon Prime, Tubi) June 15

Review

I just finished Aged and have to tell you that I had to turn the light on in my bedroom. There hasn’t been a movie that made me look over my shoulder in the darkening bedroom in a long time.

A young woman takes the job of a caregiver to a wheelchair bound woman but when she starts waking with bruises on her arms and starts hallucinating she realizes there is more to this job and nothing is what it seems.

I loved the use of shadows, music and angles. The shots in the house and the porch made me uncomfortable yet wish I lived there. I wanted to run yet move in! Cinematography was amazing and the acting was on point. Morgan as Veronica was the perfect trusting ingenue. Her vulnerability forces us to care about her as an actress and as the character. Carla Kidd as the wheelchair bound antagonist made me feel sorry for her one moment and hate her the next. She was perfect.

Definitely an icky creep factor and one jump scare that I didn’t expect. This is a must see!

My Year Of Dicks - Relatable Minus The Lose My Virginity Quest #myyearofdicks

I woke up last night at 2:50 and couldn’t go back to sleep so I got out of bed at 3:15 and went to the very uncomfortable couch, flipped on the TV ready to search for something that wasn’t going to keep me awake so that I could go back to sleep. Just something that bored me into sleep mode again.

The first thing I landed on was My Year Of Dicks on the first screen of Hulu. Short Film!? Animated?! Talking about Dicks?! Not boring but let’s check it out. Ok…let’s see short film might be perfect and it is the perfect time to watch since everyone was sleeping. No chance of a kid walking in.

Synopsis:

It’s 1991, and Pam is trying very hard to lose her virginity, but it sure doesn’t match up to her fantasies.

Always searching for her ultimate paramour, this old soul swimming in new puberty will struggle between the real world and her grandiose fantasies by exploring a relatable variety of boys of yore-- goths, skaters, indie film snobs, straight edge poseurs-- all while trying her best to avoid being grounded. Luckily she has her best friends by her side, who’d like to keep her from cementing a mistake.

This charming, animated, retro-romantic-comedy pulls no punches with its female-forward look at sexual awakening.

Created by Pamela Ribon from her critically-acclaimed memoir

The 411:

I loved it. It was truly relatable. As a now older young girl of 56 who remembers finding myself in situations that I wish I wasn’t.

It is handled in 5 different crushes.  Pam is 15, with a sense of sexual awakening who wants to lose her virginity but it must be with the RIGHT boy. As a young girl you do find yourself in so many scenarios where you think wait a minute is this really what I want?! Thankfully Pam has a good sense of herself, advocates for herself and gets out of things when she has a change of heart. Who is the perfect boy to give something of yourself that you will never ever be able to have again?

Pam is every girl yet not every girl. I wish I was Pam when I was 15. I was not in a quest but often found myself in situations I wish I could get out of without hurting someone’s feelings or feeling bad about myself.I love this version of a young girl and I think she is what I would want every young girl to do for herself. Put yourself first! You are the most important thing in your life. Making yourself a priority and screw what anyone else thinks.

I love Pam, I love her friends. I love how she stops things not worrying about anyone else’s feelings when she put the breaks on. She respects herself and that is everything.

In the end we are left wondering where things will go but we do know she is happy and feels safe!

Christmas Episodes Of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet On A DVD

I never watched Ozzie and Harriet but knew of them.  I knew it was a real family and that Ricky Nelson was a singer. It was so nice to watch. I loved the very family friendly episodes and wholesomeness of this real-life family during a very different time. They seemed like the all American family. I loved how everyone seemed so "dressed up" even though they were home. I loved the tinsel on the tree, the whole family dynamic. Really fun to watch how different the world is right now and how family was everything.

Christmas Movie Weekend Started With Sappy Holiday

FilmRise Presents Christmas Titles from Nicely Entertainment – SAPPY HOLIDAY and THE SNOWBALL EFFECT

 On Demand Starting November 25th

I adore Christmas movies. Usually I watch before the family wakes or like this weekend when the kids are busy with their own friends and not looking to watch TV with me. The sappier the movie, the better and Sappy Holiday is sappy. It’s about a woman names Joy who gets stranded at a struggling Maple Syrup farm.  Before this she was sure she knew what she wanted until life gave her a little derailment in the form of an icy road.

Sappy Holiday doesn’t change the recipe for a good holiday movie. Lonely person (working too hard) meets another family who seem to have it all (massive farm house) only to find that everyone has their own struggle. Figures out everyone else’s life while still unsure of their own, leaves for that “before” life only to find out that they miss the new life they found.

I loved it! The characters are likable, no one hurts anyone to get what they want or need and in the end, ugly cry. Yeah! I did. It was a second but it happened. Judge me! I’m fine with that.

After dinner, The Snow Ball Effect unless my daughter wants to watch something else. I will take time with her over my movies.

You MUST see Slumberland On Netflix November 18 - A Review #Slumberland #JasonMomoa

THE 411:

Just finished watching Slumberland starring Jason Momoa, Chris O'Dowd and Kyle Chandler.  Which is based on the comic strip, Little Nemo in Slumberland, by Winsor McCay

I am a huge fan of Jason Momoa and was excited to see him in this family friendly movie.

Nemo and her dad live in a lighthouse. They have a wonderful relationship spending all their time together. At bedtime she is entertained as he tells her bedtime stories about his and "Flip's" adventures in Slumberland. One night dad heads out to help rescue a boat and is lost at sea.  Nemo's life changes drastically as she is sent to live with her Dad's brother Philip. What can a girl mourning the loss of her daddy and her hermit, estranged uncle have in common? Absolutely nothing!

Nemo's dreams/nightmares are suddenly her happy place when she meets Flip who is an energetic, often seemingly deranged friend of her dads. Their adventures get off to a bumpy start as Flip is looking for a map to Slumberland that was Nemo's Dad's and makes a promise to Nemo that she will be able to see her father again.  While he cannot fulfil his promise, they eventually find themselves on some fun journeys.

Nemo and Flip need each other to heal and so does Nemo and her uncle. Together the duos rescue each other in the most entertaining way.

I was thoroughly entertained and loved everything about this movie. My daughter and I laughed often and enjoyed the flow of the movie and honestly cannot wait to watch it again and hear what everyone else thinks about it.

Jason Momoa as Flip is truly the best. A cross between Beetlejuice and The Cowardly Lion is how my daughter explains him. This is his calling. He did a great job of being funny, obnoxious and adorable. Jason and Marlow's scenes together were wonderfully fun!

In a nutshell; great cinematography, great sets, great cast, loved the visuals. The butterfly scenes must have taken forever to create.  Oh and before I forget; the PIG OMG...adorable. I couldn't get over how stinking cute it was.

The Killing Tree Available NOW - PLUS A REVIEW

 THE KILLING TREE

Deck the halls with blood

THE 411:

I thought the movie started out really strong thanks to Magna played by Gillian Broderick. Magna's love was executed in prison, and she has a plan to bring him back.  Her plan however goes horribly wrong for him, but wonderfully wrong for us. He comes back but is a decorated Christmas Tree full of rage.

The scenes of the tree chasing people or wrapping the lights around them was ridiculously funny and I really enjoyed the cinematography with reflections through the windows.

Can a decorated Christmas Tree be scary? You bet your ass it can!

Adding this to my Holiday line up.

FROST - Starring Vernon Wells, Devanny Pinn - Is Out Today October 11 #horror

A review:

So this movie just angered me. OK...wait let me start again. If I was watching just for entertainment, it was ok. I would say that for entertainment purposes not a review I would have watched this movie with my family and been ok with it. My 17 year old and I watched it together. We did zero reading about the movie and had no idea what it was about or who the actors were. The wolf on the cover told us that there are wolves in the movie. Well there was a wolf in one scene but that was about it.

In a nutshell a pregnant heads to her estranged father's house. There is some obvious bad history with his drinking and now he is saddled with this baby who he is sure is a boy. They go fishing but not before he tells her to leave her phone home because she has been attached to it or some jazz. We never really see her on it much but what other reason would she have to NOT have her phone on her? Anyway while driving and talking it's obvious that he can't multitask because they crash. Well not only crash but part of a tree goes through the daughter. Dad has to head out and get help but not before telling her all the bad things that will happen, the cold, how her body temp will drop, the fact that she will hallucinate, so many things. Yes sir, this is how we leave your very scared, pregnant daughter. Tell her everything that can possibly happen.

Well things just go from bad to worse. On day one she tells the baby she has to eat so apologizes and eats a worm. Day two she goes into labor, Day three...I don't even want to spoil it but man....it angered me to no end. Still mad about it.

If this is your jam, do it! Be prepared. There is so much I can add but will leave it here. Leave me a comment if you want more.

The Last Possession hits the Terror Films Channel on March 4 & VOD on March 11.

 THE LAST POSSESSION

Ahhhh ok. I didn't hate this movie at all. My screener was hard to watch so I am frustrated right now. It kept buffering at the most stressful parts and there were many. I enjoyed this story of a family Kent and Stephanie and their kids Jack and Gabby who has moved into the home of the Kent's father's house. His father had committed suicide there and while estranged this was the only option for this struggling family.

While having dinner they hear a big sound accompanied by a bright light in the backyard. They think earthquake even though it would be uncommon where they are. A huge sink hole or they believe well seems to have opened up in their backyard and things start getting strange.

If a huge, endless, dark hole opened in my backyard the last thing I would be putting over it is two thin pieces of plywood but maybe that's just me.

Gabby starts talking to deceased Grandpa, Jack is seeing things in the bathtub and eventually even Stephanie sees something go into the bathroom. My question is what the heck does this "paranormal entity" need in the bathroom?

Anyway, long story short, the kids are scared, mom and scared and poor Kent is just trying to protect his family so they hire a Spirit Guide to help them navigate what is going on in their home.

Things go haywire and Gabby goes missing. What is it that is "haunting" this family? You will have to wait until the end to see but it is worth it.

So while Kent and his wife Gabby think that the kids are just being kids.

Anklebiters On Demand and DVD

The 411:

Starring 4 real life sisters Anklebitters is a dark comedy, horror movie where the innocent aren’t that innocent!  Laura is a widow with 4 little girls and a new love Sean. While Sean loves Laura and tries very hard to be a good step parent to his new family, the girls aren’t ready for a new daddy.

There was something about these mini killers that really creeped me out. I was wincing as they do their damage and mad that mom seemed so distracted that she didn’t notice she has a real problem on her hands.

That Cold Dead Look In Your Eyes

The 411:

Ok! What the
Hell did I just watch?
Is it horror, science fiction, drama or what?
Very interesting in the fact I have no idea what happened.
Was our main character Leonard dreaming, hallucinating? There was so much back and forth I was dizzy. Did his girlfriend exist? Did he kill her? Was he dead?
I have no idea, it is open to interpretation I suppose.
I was very into it!
If you see it, let me know what you think.

Like Dogs From Terror Films - A Review #likedogs

The 411:

Well now! This was a movie! Treated like dogs in a laboratory by a demented over the top mad man, woman. Well you see that is where the plot holes are. I was definitely interested from the beginning. A woman is dragged into a van, she wakes in a cage, chained to a wall eating food out of a bowl. Wait, there is another guy also there. He is chained too. Plot twist...not gonna tell you but I was like Wait! WHAT?! No! That's insane. BUT then another plot twist and that is where I got lost.

Low budget film but that was okay for me. The set or I should say the dog cages seemed like real dog cages and that worked well with the narrative, the lead actress was great. The thought of psychological test on unwilling subjects was interesting but the twists made it seem like the film makers were trying too hard. Wasn't torture to watch just wish they had stuck with one angle.

Apartment 413 - Small Cast But Very Interesting

The 411:

I loved this limited cast movie. Is Marco’s pregnant girlfriend keeping a secret from him or is Marco losing his mind? The cryptic messages he gets through post it’s and messages on a found phone will tell him the former.

The movie opens with a man packing. A woman calls from another room and the man silently walks in a bludgeons her before walking out with a blood soaked hammer. We fast forward a few years and Marco and Dana live here now and we never hear or see anything about the last couple.

There were times I thought Dana was real, the a figment of his imagination. She’s pregnant, not pregnant, the damn crib, the red scarfs, the landlord, mechanic and then that damn air conditioner. What the heck? I have so many questions. If you see this movie look me up. I want to talk to you about what I think. If you love the thriller, psychological genre, you will love this movie.

My Best Worst Adventure - A Movie Review

The 411:

This was an interesting coming of age story about a girl whose step father sends her to Thailand after her mother passes away to spend some time with her grandma.

Thailand is a far cry from her wealthy upbringing but since her mother’s death Jenny is mute (this was me after my mom died and I totally get it) preferring to talk through writing.

At school she meets another mute, a boy who is bullied. Together they find their voice and the respect of others.

I enjoyed this movie and found it very sweet. With very little dialogue it is easy to follow along, and young people will easily be able to figure out who the protagonist and antagonists are.

Lily Petra makes an stunning movie debut playing the vulnerability and strong girl at the same time. She is wonderful.

Great family movie to discuss cultural differences. There are moments of violence. An alcoholic father hits a boy, bullying, a fight, and an animal gets injured, all of which can be warned and discussed with your child. I thoroughly enjoyed this quiet movie.

When I’m A Moth Movie Review

The 411:

Maybe I live in a cave but I had no idea this was loosely about Hilary Clinton. Even though the main character’s name was friggin Hilary. I was intrigued immediately by the super dry, non-feeling, could care less delivery of lines by Addison Timlin. She was awesome.

I kept wondering why some young woman wanted to be a fish monger in Alaska one summer and why she would walk up to two strange men and then go to their home. I was like WTF and what is going to happen. Nothing happened. They drank, talked and Hilary told them of her aspirations.

While it wasn’t an omg you must see this kinda movie my friends. I did appreciate the cinematography. I loved the shots of of the storm thrown fishing village, the ocean, the sky. It was beautifully shot. I also loved Addison Timlin. It is worth seeing for these reasons. Other than that I think it was just eh.

However, if you are into indie films see this. It is a bit pretentious but isn’t Hilary?

Eye Without A Face Is A Must See! Available on Digital, DVD and On Demand 8/10

The 411:

I friggin loved this movie,  Henry played by Dakota Shapiro is the perfect antagonist. He played him perfectly. Awkward, shy, tortured and suffering.  I also Loved the way he was filmed. Close up on his eyes, the window to the soul as he watched over his “friends”, the women he watches from his room. Suffering from agoraphobia Henry spends his day sitting at the computer, drinking his milk and watching various women he feels his knows everything about. It is creepy AF as this voyager taps into their webcams and spies on unsuspecting women as they live their daily lives. When Henry sees what looks like a murder he confides in his YouTube roommate a dude named Eric who I couldn’t help but think he was the reason for Henry’s troubles. Or was it when Henry stopped taking his medication forcing him to spiral into fits of manic and depressed, raged by nightmares and visions that have him second guessing what is dream and what is real.

Honestly I see a lot of crap movies. This was not crap.

100 Candle Game Starring Amy Smart - A Review

The 411:

For some reason a group of adult friends decide to get together and tell each other horror stories then leave the room to stand in front of a mirror and blow one of the candles out.  They hope to not see something behind them.

I did love the storytelling scenes. Each story was a stand alone with some more scary then the others. Some were too long and others too short but all have a solid budget. As a fan of horror none of them were scary. There were no jump scares but still good! There was one story that was told in complete Spanish without any subtitles. A woman in a casket it seems with a cellphone talking to someone but I have no idea how she got there, what she was saying or if she would ever get out. It might have been the most interesting but I have no idea.

My least favorite part was in between stories. I didn't care about the friends! There was no real connection. I don't know why they were together. There should have been some development on them to tie it all together. They are basically just a fill between each short story.
