Seven Days Of Us by Francesca Hornak - #GIVEAWAY

This Is Where I Leave You meets “Love Actually

SEVEN DAYS OF US, the critically-praised debut about a quirky British family quarantined together over Christmas—now in paperback!

It’s Christmas, and the Birch family is gathering for the first time in years. Emma is elated to have her family under one roof, even if the circumstances are unusual. Her elder daughter Olivia is only home because she has nowhere else to go. She’s just returned from treating an epidemic abroad and must stay in quarantine for a week… and so too will her family. For the next seven days, no one can leave the house, and no one can enter. It doesn’t sound too hard. But a week with your nearest and dearest can feel like eternity, especially when everyone has a secret. One of whom is about to come knocking.

Alternating between each family member’s point of view, SEVEN DAYS OF US is both a sharp-edged wink at difficult family holidays, and a character-driven look at the real failures, fumbles, and false starts that define family.

The 411:

I love this book. There are so many skeletons in the closet that the door is going to bust open!

With only 100 more pages to go I am in love with the Birch family and all their dysfunctional-isms. The family is being quarantine in the house over the holiday for the Haag virus and they are all like many families dealing with their own individual issues. Everyone has their little secret.

Emma (mom) doesn't want to change anything even though she just found out she has cancer because the thought of all  her family under one roof makes her very happy after all it may be the last Christmas they have together especially Olivia who is back from Liberia after treating the virus and really has nowhere else to go. Andrew (dad) a former field reporter for the war turned food critic has found out he has a son who wants to meet him. Phoebe is newly engaged and a little shallow. She still lives home and is looking forward to her upcoming wedding to George. My favorite character is Jesse the son who wants to meet his father and came all the way from America during Christmas to meet a man who hasn't responded to his letter.

There is so much to love. The characters are well written, very real and interesting.  I enjoyed getting to know them all and through the different perspectives see how they are affected by what each says and does and how it effects the outcomes and situations. The plot is written at a great pace, every smooth.

Great read for the winter months ahead!

  6. Families gathering at holidays can be joyful and at times very stressful. This family having to be quarantined sounds like an interesting story that I would love to read.
