But the arduous trip and harsh living conditions they encounter offer little hope, and family unity proves as daunting a challenge as any other they face.

Starring Academy Award Winner Anthony Quinn (Lawrence of Arabia, Viva Zapata!, and Lust for Life) and Academy Award Winner Lila Kedrova (The Kremlin Letter), ZORBA THE GREEK is the winner of three Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress (Lila Kedrova), Best Cinematography, and Best Art Direction. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards in all, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.

On the Greek isle of Crete, Basil (Alan Bates), a shy inhibited writer from England is befriended by Zorba (Anthony Quinn) a boisterous peasant with an astonishing love for life.
