Have Questions? Consult The Merck Manual Home Health Handbook

Recently I was mailed a copy of the The Merck Manual Home Health Handbook to review. As a child my family always had a medical handbook that we referred to for everything. This was before the internet and it was dog-eared with little papers put on certain pages for quick reference.

I received the book in the mail and was immediately transported back to 1978 without the ugly clothes.

My daughter and I sat back with the book and looked at some of the pictures. She is very interested in everything inside the body. I either have a future doctor or a scientist on my hands.

When friends come over everyone is drawn to the book. It is big, red, and full of medical information. In fact, as I am typing this a friend is reading about endometriosis and sexuality.

The Merck Manual Home Health Handbook was created by Merck using the brainpower of 300 doctors.
The Merck Manual Home Health Handbook includes informative or specialized sections on the specific medical hurdles that children and the aging population face.

This book is so current it even has information on the H1N1 Virus and can be access as an IPhone and IPod app. Pretty cool. Nothing like what I had when I was a kid.

Each section is broken down into description, causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and possible treatments.

I don't advocate for self diagnosis but it is a very interesting, reference and gives you a sound foundation if and when it is time to approach your medical doctor.

  1. I have my Merck Manual from Nursing School that I still use, but it is a bit out of date. I really love it and would recommend them for anyone... Mine is a bit technical, so I'm sure the Home Health Handbook would be terrific. I like the iPhone app, and for only $9.99 it is definitely worth it. Thanks so much for the info and the review!
