Summary: Based on the renowned "Renzulli Method," which has been adopted in schools all over the country, LIGHT UP YOUR CHILD'S MIND presents a practical program to help children fire up a love of learning to last a lifetime. World-renowned experts Drs. Renzulli and Reis illustrate the crucial role parents can play in their children's development and address how they can work with teachers to enhance their children's education. They uncover the hidden potential of daydreamers, rebels, and one-track minds, arguing that gifted behavior--basic smarts, high levels of task commitment, and creativity--can be fostered in bright children, even unmotivated ones. Step by step, LIGHT UP YOUR CHILD'S MIND will show parents how to set their kids on the path to a rewarding future.
This is a fantastic book. I will refer to it for many years. I believe the doctors are totally onto something that every school should be considering. Over the past three weeks I have read quite a bit on education especially now that my son has entered Kindergarten. I want him to be the best student he can be and I think success doesn't necessary lie in formal education but in his particular interests. "Interest= achievement".
As parents we know that our own children are extremely different so it is obvious that a room full of students are all going to learn differently. The section on "individualized instruction" is something I believe the new school superintendent in my area is gearing toward. I can only hope that is the case.
Light Up Your Child's Mind is the perfect book for parents who want to "guide on the side". Too many parents leave a child's education up to the school and the teachers. As parents, we can be the glue that holds our child's formal education together.
This is a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a child or is in the school system.

Disclaimer: Due to a recent CBS news piece I feel I need to start a disclaimer on my blog in regards to product reviews. I received no payment to write this review. I was given the book for free to conduct my review. The words are all mine and I was not forced or asked to write anything you read here. In my opinion, a blogger review is the equivalent of me talking to my friends and family in my daily life, about a product I either love or don’t. All the opinions throughout my posts are strictly my own.
