Historical Drama’s North American Limited Theatrical Roll-Out Begins August
25; DVD/VOD To Follow This November
Philadelphia,
PA, July 6, 2017--Breaking Glass Pictures has
acquired North American rights to the historical drama THE LONG NIGHT OF FRANCISCO SANCTIS
from first time Argentinian directors Francisco Márquez and Andrea Testa.
Breaking Glass acquired the rights to the film in February in a deal
negotiated between Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Gabor Greiner of Films
Boutique. The film is slated for a limited theatrical release beginning August 25, 2017,
followed by a DVD/VOD release this winter.
Described as “a dark journey of
the soul” (Variety)
that “interrogates what it means to stay on the sidelines during a military
government and asks whether such a stance is possible” (Slant), THE LONG NIGHT
OF FRANCISCO SANCTIS stars Diego
Velázquez (Krytonite,
The Fish Child),
Valeria Lois
('History of Fear'), and Laura
Paredes (Ultimátum).
THE LONG NIGHT OF FRANCISCO SANCTIS held its world premiere
during the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, and went on
to play numerous festivals, including the Busan Film Festival, the San
Sebastian Film Festival, the Jerusalem Film Festival, and the Warsaw Film
Festival. The film held its US premiere at the Hamptons Film Festival,
and went on to play the Mill Valley Film Festival, as well as the New York
"Neighboring Scenes" hosted by the Film Society of the Lincoln Center,
and the Cleveland International Film Festival.
THE LONG NIGHT OF FRANCISCO SANCTIS begins in Buenos Aires,
1977. Francisco Sanctis, a family man living an eventless life, receives
information about an upcoming kidnapping and “disappearing” operation by
soldiers of the ruling dictatorship. In a race against the night, he will
need to make the most important decision of his life: will he try to save
innocent lives by risking his own?
"Andrea Testa and Francisco Marquez have taken our breath
away with their perfectly paced, shot and executed film noir thriller”, said
Gabor Greiner, Head of Acquisitions from Berlin-based international sales
Films Boutique. “This remarkable first feature has been widely praised at its
world premiere at BAFICI where it won Best Film and at its international
premiere at Cannes Film Festival.”
“The Long Night of Francisco Sanctis brings audiences to
Buenos Aires in the late 70s during the military dictatorship, placing them
amidst the suspense and frightening unknown that existed at that time",
said Michael Repsch, SVP of Distribution & Sales at Breaking Glass.
“Audiences will relate to this beautifully structured tale of doing right by
people - our most important resource – especially with our current political
climate.”
