You Are Never Too Old To Color

Coloring relaxes the mind. It's true...it has been proven that when you color you activate two cerebral hemispheres. "The action involves both logic, by which we color forms, and creativity, when mixing and matching colors. This incorporates the areas of the cerebral cortex involved in vision and fine motor skills [coordination necessary to make small, precise movements]. The relaxation that it provides lowers the activity of the amygdala, a basic part of our brain involved in controlling emotion that is affected by stress." [source]

I find this very interesting because I always knew that but didn't. You know what I mean? Basically when I color, I get in a zone. It's like a zen zone where I focus on nothing else but what I am coloring. My head tilts depending on where I am coloring, my breathing slows and I let go of all the surrounding noise. It is a great way to just be.

This is the second book I have done featuring Mandalas. The first one can be found here and I have come to really love just sitting and coloring alone or sometimes with my daughter. She loves joining me which makes it less relaxing but more about talking and discussing different things as we color. It is a wonderful reconnecting tool.
