When Kids Call the Shots: How to Seize Control from Your Darling Bully -- and Enjoy Being a Parent Again + Giveaway

Sean Grover is a respected therapist and sought after parenting expert. His upcoming book, When Kids Call the Shots, is filled with perceptive insights and practical guidance that gives parents hope and tools for winning the battle with dominating kids.

Description
Are the children ruling the roost? When parents reclaim their power, everyone benefits.

Rebellious, entitled, disrespectful, many kids pummel their parents with demands, and boss them around with impunity. Experts might label them 'difficult' and advise how to 'fix' them. But parenting struggles rarely originate from just one side. Instead, they erupt at the volatile intersection of a child's personality with a parent's own insecurities and behaviors. Fixing the child requires fixing yourself.
In When Kids Call the Shots, therapist and parenting expert Sean Grover untangles the forces driving family dysfunction, and helps parents assume leadership roles. With a liberating message and perceptive advice, the book explores:
  • Three common bullying styles (defiant, manipulative, anxious) used by kids
  • Parenting styles (guilt-prone, anxiety-fueled, fix-everything) that contribute to power imbalances
  • Critical testing periods in a child's development
  • Coping mechanisms that backfire
  • Personalized plans for calmly exerting authority in any scenario
  • And more
Caving in to tantrums and threats breeds more of the same. Learn to stop the cycle of abusive behavior and make parenting a pleasure again.

The 411:

This is a smart book about taking back the power we have as parents. Our job is to get our kids ready to take on the world but more importantly it is to make sure the world wants to be around them long after we are gone and that means stepping up as a parent and sometimes doing the hard work. We all want to raise, independent, smart, head strong, kids and sometimes that means we give in, we choose our fights, we establish ground rules but we ourselves don't always follow them or follow through if they are broken and at times this gives our kids the power over us. They are smart and they will use this to their advantage.  We all makes mistakes and all could use some help. That's were this book comes into play.

My biggest desire is to have a wonderful relationship with my kids long after they need me to take care of them. Sean Grover obviously wants that too and his tips and advice definitely hit a nerve with me.  In order to effectively parent we need to deal with our own insecurities, upbringing, and unresolved issues.

I believe this is a book I will be reopening for a long time. The advice is easy and sound! Plus, getting in touch with ourselves is a good thing for our soul.

There is no manual when we have kids but this is a good place to start. Being an effective parent is hard work and I am so happy I now have this book

PLUS check out that adorable cover!!! It says you better read me or else!
