The 411:
We all start the New Year out pretty much the same. We wash away the pain and grime (if there was any) of the previous year and hope that this year will be the year. I just might be with the right attitude and a dash of reality we can all be happy.
I loved reading all these stories and read it from cover to cover. Usually I skip around and read as the title inspires but this volume needed my time. Maybe it is the beginning of the year, maybe because I keep hoping my happiness is real and not a figment of my imagination but I each and every story. Of course there were those that really spoke to me as with every issue of Chicken Soup for the Soul.
The Write Life for Me by Valerie Benko who received a diagnosis of MS before her 30th birthday. Her prognosis was good but while she watched her friends and coworkers living their lives she got depressed. She finally took up one of her past loves; writing and put it all on paper. Her empowerment sparked a passion she had long since ignored and has had more success with her writing than any other time in her life.
Up in Flames by Jennifer Gauthier after her mother died she still suffered from saddness, anger and confusion. She wrote a letter to her past at the suggestion of a good friend who told her to burn it afterwards. In the letter she wrote about the abuse she suffered and witnessed. She wrote about her mother's death and its affect on her and burned it. After burning it her friend (an obviously very smart individual) gave her a box and told her to put parts of the burned letter into a box so that she could look at it and say "it's over" when she needed to. While picking up the pieces she noticed that one piece wasn't burned, one that contained the word MOM! Getting rid of her negative energy allowed her the ability to be happy.

I resigned from my job last March. Had a massive blood clot in June and I have been recuperating since June. I have been trying to find my next job, but I have had no luck yet. I am going to keep the book for myself to help me find happiness or at least read about other people's happiness.
