Animal Lovers Book Giveaway - Oogy by Larry Levin

In the bestselling tradition of Rescuing Sprite comes the story of a puppy brought back from the brink of death, and the family he adopted.

In 2002, Larry Levin and his twin sons, Dan and Noah, took their terminally ill cat to the Ardmore Animal Hospital outside Philadelphia to have the beloved pet put to sleep. What would begin as a terrible day suddenly got brighter as the ugliest dog they had ever seen--one who was missing an ear and had half his face covered in scar tissue--ran up to them and captured their hearts. The dog had been used as bait for fighting dogs when he was just a few months old. He had been thrown in a cage and left to die until the police rescued him and the staff at Ardmore Animal Hospital saved his life. The Levins, whose sons are themselves adopted, were unable to resist Oogy's charms, and decided to take him home.
Heartwarming and redemptive, OOGY is the story of the people who were determined to rescue this dog against all odds, and of the family who took him home, named him "Oogy" (an affectionate derivative of ugly), and made him one of their own.

What I Can Tell You:
Oogy by Larry Levin is not a tear jerker book but a book about tragedy, rescue, adoption, love, legacy and inspiration. Oogy was found during a police raid as a puppy. He had been left for dead with massive head injuries after being used as "bait" in a dog fighting ring.

Larry and his family were at the vets to take care of their sick cat when they met Oogy. He was warm, friendly, loveable and recovering from the brink of death.

Larry and his boys immediately fell in love with this puppy and adopted him.

Larry and his wife adopted his twin boys when they were born and I love when his boys talk about the love they felt with their adopted pet and how they understood what their parents had felt for them. Great life lesson on unconditional love.

Larry undoubtedly loves Oogy as does everyone who comes into contact with him. The vet has never charged for any of the surgeries or care that Oogy has needed (and he has needed loads) while with the Levin's.

What I loved most about this book was that it is just an honest story about a families love for their dog and that there are good people in this world who go above and beyond daily without asking for anything in return.

If I come back as a dog, I want to be Larry's dog!
