Mother's Day Giveaway Yummys - Sponsored By Salt City Patisserie

Can you believe Mother's Day is only 3 Weeks Away? Personally, Mother's Day is one of my favorite holidays. As someone who lost their mother at the age of 12, Mother's Day was something that felt like a knife in my heart every year. I would see all the cards at Hallmark and long for my mom. Now, I have kids and love getting the little gifts they make at school. The holiday that I wished I could sleep through, now has special meaning.

Thanks to

I have my first 2010 Mother's Day Giveaway!

Salt City Patisserie is an Etsy shop I found while checking out the yummy edible section. If you haven't checked out Etsy for your homemade needs, you are really missing out. There are some wonderful creators, bakers and artists selling their wares there. It's a total artisan peddling shop and I love shopping and checking out the many talents of Etsy shop owners.

Let me introduce you to the owner of Salt City Patisserie and her wonderful shop!

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I live in SLC, Utah I have been in love with baking most of my life. The only other thing I love as much as baking is downhill and freeride mountain biking... when I am not in the kitchen that's what you can find me doing.

I have a blog, Salt City Bakery where I have been making, decorating and trying to sell cakes too. I really enjoy making fondant and 3D design cakes. (You have to check out her blog! Amaz-ing!)

How long has your Etsy shop been online or why did you start your Etsy shop?
"My etsy shop has been online for a year (April 2009) I started it because I wanted a way to share my love of baking with as many people as possible."

Explain your shop to us? What are your specialties?
"My shop is very simple and very small. Because I have a full time job and my side cake business I don't have a lot of time to put into making my Etsy shop as good as I'd like it to be. But I have been slowly working on that this year and hope to have more stuff for sale soon. I would say my specialties, as far as my shop go, are the cookies and bread. That's why, that is pretty much all I have in the shop. I have sold more bread than anything else.... and I absolutely love doing it. Bread is so fun to make... but is very time consuming because I make everything by hand; I don't use a bread machine, and all my bread is twice risen."

Where do you get your inspiration?
"I get my inspriation from my mother-in-law, and from my favorite bakery on the east coast, The Patisserie Fauchere (where I got my Etsy shop name idea from). I had a chance to work with the head baker at The Patisserie Fauchere over Christmas and it was the hightlight of my holiday's and such a wonderful experience I'll never forget it.

My mother-in-law has been a baker for over 20 years, and is so smart and talented. Almost everything I know has been taught to me by her.... everything else I have learned on my own. I have not had any professional trainig, or taken any baking or cooking classes."

What do you love most about what you do?
"Sharing my baked goodies with people, that is what I love more than anything. I am not in this for the money at all, I just truly love baking. Having an Etsy store, and a cake business just gives me an excuse to bake! I get so excited every time I have a sale, because it means I get to bake."

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
"In five years I hope to have a few little ones running around helping me bake, to be happy, healthy and be running my own, successful bakery in Utah, Salt City Bakery!!"
