The items on Lisa's shop are amazing. I have never seen anything like them.
I was able to ask Lisa some questions about herself and her shop My Spa Secrets. She is a very interesting, talented person and here is what she had to say.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
"Well I’m 48 yrs old and I live with my darling husband Scott. We met on eHarmony almost 4 years ago and have been together ever since our first date. Believe it or not we went to the movies and saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre on our first date and it was my suggestion since nothing else playing was any good. I used to be in the mortgage industry for a long time but in Dec ’08, before Christmas, I was laid off due the mess that industry was in. I was so bored being without a job that I wanted a very busy hobby that I could possibly build on and turn into a business of some sort. I’ve always loved crafting so I knew it would be some sort of craft. I was doing a lot of “therapeutic shopping” in the beginning after being laid off and really got interested in the expensive soaps that they sell in Bath and Body works and in the local spas around town. I thought I’d give it a try and of course became addicted to it as all soapers do. I read everything I could about soap making and about making scrubs and bath bombs as a matter of fact I started out with making bath bombs and then went onto soap from there. I signed up for newsletters and I was very lucky that Ann Marie at Brambleberry was just starting an online TV

series that taught how to make glycerin soaps and the different techniques there are. If it weren’t for her I would still be making beginner soaps. How long has your Etsy shop been online or why did you start your Etsy shop?
"I started out selling my goodies at my chiropractor’s office. Then in November 2009 opened my Etsy shop for the holidays. Right now I am getting ready to open another Etsy shop called “For Goodness Grape” named after my new grape lip butter which is awesome to say the least. For Goodness Grape (4goodnessgrape elsewhere) will carry all of my lip balms and butter and then lots of YUMMY products such as Sugar Cookie Body Polish, Lemon Drop Souffles, Chocolate Bath Bombs and lots more. Look to see this shop open sometime before May 1, 2010."
Explain your shop to us?
"My shop is called My Spa Secrets and right now I have about 70+ items for sale. I just made all of my Valentine items inactive for now since when those were included it was over 100 items and I think that’s just too many. If people don’t have time to look at everything you have in your shop I thought they may not buy at all if they don’t have time to see everything. I’m also trying to make my descriptions shorter so that they have time to read it all and see my entire site and all that I have to offer them.
I have lots of different soaps both cold processed (which is the old fashioned way to make soap using lye) and glycerin soaps. I also have bath salts, bath cookies, bath bombs and teas. I have massage candles made with soy wax and skin safe oils so that you can heat them up using the wick then blow out the flame and use the melted soy with oils as a hot massage oil on your partner. Pretty sexy huh? I have butters, foaming scrubs and bath soufflé’s. Shaving soaps, doggy soap, the Pedi-Scrub like I gave you to try and also put in the give away which I love myself and think is pretty cool and I haven’t seen anyone else with it. I also have soap cupcakes, popsicles and petit fours. And I am planning to add to the “foodie soaps”. And lastly I have my lip balms and butters.
I really enjoy interacting with my customers and packing their purchases up real pretty so it’s a nice surprise to receive and open in their hurried day. I love doing graphic design which is what I did at my last job so I love making my own labels and designs. I also designed my own logo. So this ended up being the absolute best hobby for me since I love doing the entire process from beginning to end.
Also, I have started a lending team for crafters to join on Kiva.org which makes micro loans to other entrepreneurs around the world that need help. A lot maybe even most are in third world countries. I love the idea of being a part of helping someone else be successful. So for the entire month of April I will be using 20% from all the sales in my Etsy shop towards several micro loans to these people so that we can give someone less fortunate a chance at success. You even get to pick out who it is that you lend to. What are your specialties?
"I would say my specialties are my soaps right now. I love designing something different all the time and expanding on other ideas that I’ve seen or tried out. I have lots and lots of different molds but I have to say that my favorite soap to make is a loaf and then cut it with the crinkle cutter so it has the waves in it. Right now I’m really getting into making lip balms and butters and whipped soaps and scrubs as well. We are in the process of selling our home and buying another one. I am also an Office Manager for an engineering firm so I stay pretty busy now."

Where do you get your inspiration?
"I get my inspirations from everywhere. In nature, looking at other items, watching techniques and learning and from friends and family."
What do you love most about what you do?
"I love that I make someone happy when they open a package with my items. I love that I am able to make
something healthy and that is good for them and the environment and something that they love too and that makes them happy."
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
"I would say I see myself still making soap and bath products and perhaps adding mineral make up to my line up. I will also have my own online website in addition to my Etsy shop as I do own the name My Spa Secrets as well as the .com and .net domains. My husband is an IT guy and wants to set that up for me but I want to establish myself more thru Etsy. I would never leave Etsy. The crafting community and support there is just awesome!"
What I Can Tell You: Lisa is mucho talented. I love all her products and her prices. I also appreciate that she is involved in a wonderful cause like Kiva.org.
She is also very thorough. The letter she included in the box she mailed to me told me everything I needed to know.
Her items are high quality and smell amazing. Lisa is a true talent.
